When are we going to have a "meta" that everyone is happy with?

what “meta” would please everyone?

in other words

what meta would cease all complaints?

Never.
Because not all heroes can be meta at the same time.

Didnt play it in comp, but Tracer was viable and I effing loved that

yeah, so, isn’t it kinda a waste of time for people to complain and or try to give their advice on what balance changes should be made (to create a perfect meta) ?

Never, because people will ALWAYS complain about something.

With the horrid balancing we have, something is always going to be on top while others are down on the bottom.

kinda demoralizing, in how no matter what you do, there is always people who find problems with said change

i dunno, i just wish there were more positive/content happy threads in here

Ah yes, dive. Good for only the flanking heroes.

Also only the top percentage of players actually played dive. Emulating does not count

Exactly

Now Im an Ana main.
I play what I used to kill

Thats like asking for a utopia

Never.

Always people who will dislike certain metas.

Imo Dive was only liked as much as it was because 1 it was open to some change, lots of DPS were viable at the same time. Unlike other Meta’s it wasn’t written in stone which 6 hero’s you played, there were a few variations. Not to mention it was flashy and looked good when streaming on Twitch to have big flanking maneuvers end in team wipes. People loved to watch Genji 1v6 the entire enemy team.

But honestly the only “meta” that would ever make most if not all people happy is a balanced one. Which imo can only really be achieved by not a single comp that is stronger than all, but some kind of equal counter system much like Rock Paper Scissors.

In theory something like Bunker should counter Goats, Dive should counter Bunker and Goats should counter Dive. Not saying that’s how it works but something along those lines would be far more interesting.

Your comp shouldn’t just destroy everything and force a mirror match. There should be options, strategy and tactics.

Barring a quick balance schedule to keep people on thier toes or, you know, good balance like a lot of MOBAs where a good strength/counter strength system can go on, they will never have it

A “meta” will always bring complaints.

Look at any Trading Card Game (MTG)… Those who like to play “jank” decks will always bemoan whatever meta is currently in place.

However, a meta that will bring the least complaints, imo, is one which has many facets for success. Nobody likes 1 singular method for doing the right thing. However, if there are 4-5 different, yet mostly equal, routes to success, more people will be on board.

So, keeping the meta variable enough to appease to most players.

If I had any faith in the balance team to do their jobs it would be possible. The problem is it really seems like they have next to no idea what they are doing and what the results of changes might be.

This forces balance changes to be fairly slow and for them to wait weeks of it being live before they decide if it worked or not. They need to just flat out retool everything at once. Incremental changes is a poor way to balance a game this out of balance.

It leads to a lot of hero’s being OP or weak that would otherwise work if coupled with some synergy. Think of Brigitte and all the things she did for the game when released.

Her AoE healing and long distance heals via the Repair pack made Doomfist viable again for the first time in a long time. Nothing about DF at the time changed, yet Brig made him better. The balance team needs to pay a bit more attention to the big picture and all hero’s and how they interact with each other.

And their changes are so slow (and Blizzard just balances like this) that they do HUGE pendulum swings of balance.

Double the update speed, do smaller changes more frequently lol

Which going back to MTG there is almost always dozens if not hundreds of decks that work. Sure some of the most expensive cards make things easier and all that but not all decks are the best vs all others. Most the Pro’s just pick decks that cover the most bases, but can still be beaten by something simple as a common goblin deck.

Rotating metas are fine and absolutely expected.

The real issue with Blizzard and OW is their slowness to make any changes.

For example, Team Fight Tacticts (the auto chess LoL game) has lead developers posting almost daily about what they are changing. The game is not balanced at all but at least it’s UPDATED FREQUENTLY and not stagnant.

Very true. I’d even argue that sometimes playing off-meta would be wise, especially if you’re anticipating mostly meta decks. Catch people off-guard.

forget about what meta is on, this will never happen

That’s literally impossible.
