Just came back to ow because of a 1-2 month vacation came back to this hamster spinning around super fast. I mainly tank and heal but many of my top played is struggling a bit with this little hamster ball. So i tried to think and find all the counters to him.
So far as tank and healer these are the counters i find best. Roadhog and orisa. Hook it and shredding him in 2 shots gg. Orisa got her Iron ability to stop him np and shield for guns. I played rein dva and winston the most and played more hog or at least flirted playing with him after final hook changes.
So far as for healer i feel lucio and birg is best counter. Havent had much time for dps but reaper seem cool. But soldier and mccree seem to do a very good job against him.
So whats yours and why?
Sombra makes the hamster useless (totally), without any counterplay. Just cause slow animation on slamming and big reload time

He has an enormous hitbox and is vulnerable to any CC. Mei stops him dead. Sombra if she gets hack off equals a dead hamster. Doomfist can easily punch him. Reaper will scare him off as well.

My D.Va playstyle is all over the place so I just have a tendency of countering aggressive, mobile tanks like other D.Vas and Hammonds just playing D.Va. Mostly bc they overextend, but still.

Sombra, Hog, and Reaper are devastating hard counters to him mostly.

Don’t know if this still hold up but a lot of people said CC did (aka current meta) as he heavily relies on mobility and getting in and out quickly so when he is stunned he becomes a sitting duck the size of roadhog.

Sombra, bastion, mei, bridgette, reaper and hog can be considered counters. Mcree too cause any stuns on hammond is death.

Mei and Sombra make him useless… hard counter… not doing anything useless.
Reaper, Hog and Bastion destroy him if he gets anywhere near them. Very similar to Winston really… only WBs shield doesn’t stop CC like Winstons. So anything that Winston would have to be careful with/avoid WB will also have to avoid.
He isn’t much of a threat to most other characters in the game so really the only characters he is good at fighting is Widow… sort of?
Honestly I wouldn’t worry to much about how to counter him. Unless there is some kind of insane trick he can pull off that no one knows about yet he will need buffing before he is of any real use… which is a shame because he is insanely fun to play.
In comp I think I would rather have pretty much any other character on my team.

Oh i forgot
My biggest Hammond counter is that I have a tendency to hold down left click (d.va main sue me) and holding left click breaks him out of ball form. So I’ll try to roll away fast and just get de-balled. It happens with rein while i hold my shield up and the camera just pivots too ;;;

I have played like 6 hours of Hammond in QP, and I can say Mei and Sombra make his life hell. Personally, I feel like Hammond is only good in few situations on a good day, let alone if either of those 2 were ever on the other team.

Bastion and Orisa.
They have bottomless clips to wear him down.
Any decent ability combos. Hog hook + Sombra hack for one
tracer.
He just can’t deal with her.
Reaper and McCree. The high damage along with McCree’s Flashbang make for easy pickings.
Mei is great for stopping his momentum with walls and freeze.
Sombra hacks him out of existence.
Bastion, while not in a good spot, completely melts him.
Sombra and Mei make him absolutely useless.
One whiff of Mei’s primary fire will stop his momentum and he can be chain freezed to death.
Reaper. Lots of forms members will disagree but Im in a rank where Reaper is still considered powerful.
Hog also works too.
