The character is not even that great to begin with but when it’s clearly not working, what are you doing?
I notice that it’s not so much Mercy players, but rather, players in general. Countless matches I’ve lost because people want to keep trying the same failed strategy over and over and over, getting no value.
Like,I enjoy Widow. But if after the first minute I haven’t gotten a single solo pick, I’m swapping. It’s not a hard concept, yet so many people seem to fail at it.
The difference with supports is that if they’re not dying off cool down they’re still providing value, just not as much value as they would on another hero. So there’s generally less of a perceived need to swap.
And that difference in value only goes down depending on comfort levels with specific heroes. Ana may be the best hero in a specific situation, but that doesn’t mean that your Kiriko can play Ana well enough to outperform their kiriko.
Depends: comp they should perform well or switch or being reported
Qp – your serotonin addiction cannot demand this. People play their mains as their fantasy
I’m just here to have fun, Mercy’s fun.
I don’t ask why Doom instalocks don’t swap, I know why, they probably think he’s fun.
Course I don’t play Comp so fun is all that’s on the line.
It’s their game, not mine so I don’t get a say in their choices
“then don’t play a team game”
avoid me/them I guess
Some people develop strong attachments to their heroes. The reason they play the game at all is to play their favorite hero. Certain heroes especially have mains who really do not want to swap period. Mercy, Rein, D.Va, Kiriko, I think Juno now maybe, Tracer, Genji… and if they do have to swap they just aren’t happy or enjoying themselves.
Would you want someone who’s masters level on Zen playing a bronze level Ana? I’m obviously exaggerating, but there are times where you want a swap but it won’t be optimal because of who the player can play.
Well ana is ana, super meta , unless you’re dps ana you will perform better than any mercy just becase bliz made ana op
I think it’s 3 things
-
Support players in general swap less than other roles (iirc it’s like 1.3 times per 10/m for tanks, 1 for DPS and 0.5 for support); I think this is due to Supports thinking their role is less impactful so there is less onus on them to swap, or that their picks aren’t the problem. Generally unless they’re getting bullied as Zen by a Sombra or the enemy has an Ana they can Suzu, they won’t swap.
-
A lot of Mercy players don’t know how to play other characters. Mercy’s play style of zipping around topping people up barely translates to LW, who has relatively weak and boring movement and does big chunks of heals all at once. While Brig and Moira have a similar level of mechanics, (except for GM where Brigs have an APM of a trillion), the play style isn’t similar at all.

A lot of Mercy players don’t like playing these other characters. Moira and Brig are reliant on hitting the other team, and LW is generally expected to be contributing damage too. Mercy players play Mercy because they like the ‘health bar go up’ sound and zoomzoom and passive playstyle.
This really isn’t true at all.
On Ana you need to understand how to position yourself to get value. This requires learning how teammates play, how enemies rotate, and how you should rotate around both. You also need some level of aiming.
These aren’t skills that are transferable from a lot of other supports who don’t need to worry about this. If you can’t do these things, teammates will die who otherwise wouldn’t have if you played someone else.
no player is ever required to switch, under any circumstances
ever
switching is always an option
switching is never required
The matchmaking should give an uphill battle modifier for forcing mercy all match.
You are right , but if person doesn’t know all of this why they even play comp? Difference between comp and qp – comp has reward system that kinda motivate you to win. In qp win or loose doesn’t have any indications (your feelings aside) so might be not first priority. In comp you have to be flex #imho
switching is never required
The game was literally built around switching
Sounds like Mercy needs buffs.
as an option, yes
it is never required of any player under any circumstances, ever
Maybe the DPS should switch to maximize the Mercy’s value? Hmm, or maybe you should just stick to your own play.
I meaan, other to bring awareness to her state it’s kind of sending a message at this point. If she isn’t that good to begin with, then let’s vote to remove her from the game, otherwise why is the stain still there?
I would rather a Mercy OTP stay on Mercy than throw by playing something aim intensive lol
