Whats up with Competitive Deathmatch SR?

So in normal comp Im at around 4000 GM give or take. I played and won 7 (maybe 6 you can’t check wins in arcade) out of my placment matches and I get put in platinum!!! over 1000 SR lower than my main competitive rank. And on top of that whats with the totaly random amount you get for winning/losing I have lost 67 SR for 1 game and sometimes I lose only 8… I just closed down the game after winning and gaining 2 whole SR for placing 3rd. 2 SR for a win is not OK.

I have climbed around 400 SR in total now after about 3 hours of DM but it still makes no sense. I can lose almoest 100 SR in 2 games and then gain back 80 after 1 match just for the following match to give me less than 10.

It’s a true reset. I got put in plat despite sitting pretty in Mastes most the time.

Its the first hard reset ever.

You can share your opinion here if you would like  - https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/overwatch/t/ffa-comp-is-first-hard-reset/109440/22

But its not a “true” reset since I was only and still am playing against people who are high-masters/GM players both in placments and afterwards. So if it was a true reset I would be doing placments against a few gold, plats and maybe one or two GM players. But no every single player was above masters.

You might place much lower depending what you play with. If you are support main in +4000, its normal if you place in 3000 when playing support in deathmatch since its whole different thing. If you play dps in deathmatch, same thing. You are not used to play those heroes so its normal if you place lower than your “normal” competitive rank. ;-;

I’m GM in comp but ended up plat in deathmatch (Played only Doomfist tho), I don’t play dps so I’m ok with it also I ended up doing 4/6 W/L so I guess it’s understandable if they don’t take my comp sr for deathmatch ?

I played comp CTF during the Year of the dog and ended up GM.

Same for my friend a GM Hanzo main he ended up near diamond, I even heard that IDDQD got placed diamond.

The matchmaking is so weird, it must be a hard reset. This was one of my games yesterday, using standard comp rank:

1 Silver (me)
1 Gold
4 Plat
2 Diamond (one of which had a season high of Masters)

There’s no way that’s not a hard reset

Im 2800-2900 in comp and i placed at 2835 going (6-4 with two 1sts three 2nds a 4th two 5ths and two 8ths), but i then came first in my next 4 games and am 3073 having stopped playing for today, seems like a hard reset as my first game i absolutely dominated coming 1st while next best was on 12 but since then pretty much all my opponents have been master/gm players and one match in placements i played against some t500s(i came 8th). Although i think its a hard reset it does seem to be a fairly accurate system from my experience.

How does it go again? Oh right! “You are at the rank you are supposed to be.”

Well since yesterday I have gained 450 SR so I think that kind of says something about where I was placed. Its just such a grind.

I did an experiment. I placed one account playing Zen only, went 5-5 with 2 times first place and ended up at 2850. I then placed my other account playing hog, doom, mccree all the stuff you see in deathmatch and ended up mid diamond after going 9-1. This means that performance based SR doesnt matter as much as W/L ratio, cuz a 5-5 Zen would otherwise have gotten placed higher than a 9-1 meta player considering everyone plays meta and noone plays Zen. Im now placing my 3rd account (which is about 600-1000sr higher than the other accounts) by playing meta and will update you on the outcome.

Sr gain per win is still a puzzle.

I am bronze 1147 in normal competitive(mainly because I started it at lvl 25) and got placed in 2164 gold competitive dm…

Yesterday I was losing 43SR for 5th place, and gaining 7SR(!!!) for 2nd place. Makes 0 sense to me, especially if the MMR has been reset.

Because you have a fresh MMR start for FFA comp. FFA doesnt take the same skill set regular comp does. Its all about getting kills as fast as possible.

How many kills did you get in each match? I think that plays a big part

I don’t remember exactly, but my 2nd place was 19 and 5th somewhere in the low teens :man_shrugging:

Nothing skillful about holding a point or carrying the load.

Skillful would be comp death match.

Strategic would be regular comp mode.

Two different modes 2 different situations

this weird SR gain of like maybe 2 to 8 points for a win + bizarre uncalculatable amounts for losing is making me now stop playing comp DM. I’d be less salty if I understood why I gained tiny amounts of SR but DM is a mind **** in casual mode as it is with people cheesing and people playing characters that they know they are not going to win with but are super tanky and take ages to kill /so you know someone is going to pop you in the back during the extended fight and then finish your kill as well/ and add to that the new petra map has got so many pathways to the same areas it encourages back shotting (the most feel bad thing about DM) I just don’t want the stress of comp SR punishments when I already feel helpless.

DM was my fun practice mode but it feels like the comp version just does not respect my time at all. If anyone figures out exactly how it decides what SR to reward or punish you with then LMK and maybe I can go in feeling less lost at sea.

Well maybe that just shows that some people are just boosted meta slaves that can’t carry themselves. I am gm as well and ended up in top 500 for competitive deathmatch, maybe because I main tracer and soldier and can aim… thinking

Grats on top 500 dude. you need to be low diamond for it. I have climbed like 700 points by now but its still silly that so few people are high rank.
