What's the point of throwing?

I started to pay close attention to replays when i feel like something isn’t right and…
just watch the brig and doom/bastion/mei.

Code : 9XW7FB
It generally starts at 5:30 but just watch 9:30 for the mei player.
That is a deliberate effort to sabotage the game.
I wish this is the only game, it isn’t. So many other games had people doing the same or worse than these two. Why? what’s the point?

Mr 0 posts will never be back to read this, but this is why people throw:

Losing sucks. People don’t enjoy it. But losing sucks MORE the harder you try. If you’re actively TRYING to lose, you actually accomplished your goal, so it is no longer unfun. If you purposely lose enough games to get to a rank where you can win 90% of your games, you’ve gone from having fun half the time and being frustrated half the time to having fun 45% of the time and having a neutral experience 50%. You’ve reduced your frustration experiences by 90%. That explains long-term throwers (smurfs). There’s also much more common casual throwers, who throw when the game seems like it’s unwinnable, turning a very unpleasant experience for them into a neutral one.

Not everyone works this way, and some people enjoy every game win or lose, but that is not the norm. At the other extreme are sadistic people who enjoy ruining things for other people. I believe that is a very small subset of the throwing population. Many non-sadistic ones will act sadistic as a defense mechanism when you call them out.

There are many reasons why people throw.

One of them is because it’s just a game and fun to mess around/do whatever you want. Stop taking stuff seriously once you realize people can do whatever they want in a video game.

just be clear, this is competitive. And even if it wasn’t, i fail to see how jumping off the map the entire match and using your ult on nothing counts as “messing around” or fun.

Okay and? People bought this game for THEM! Not other people. Again, they can do whatever the hell they want with the game they purchased. What you’re going to do, yell at them?

Also many people tend to throw in ways that doesn’t involve jumping off a cliff, but even then, the goal is to get their team pissed which gives people enjoyment. I don’t see what’s so hard to get about that.

People can do whatever they want in life. It doesn’t there aren’t (or shouldn’t be) consequences.

… and your point is what?

Buddy this is Overwatch, it isn’t “life”.

I fail to see how your statement counters mine. Try again.

Comparing a game to life is stupid.

That’s ridiculous. This type of behavior is unacceptable.

Report the reply by clicking the Triangle/Danger icon next to the Import button. Give the player’s name, time code and small description if you can.

Don’t let people get away with this crap.

Reported both players and replay code.

To lose the game and get a rise out of their teammates.

It’s pathetic actually.

That hurt my brain. What was the second sentence supposed to be? Reread that and please tell us what you meant, with coherent thought this time.

I don’t know what to tell you. I’m not your English tutor. No one else had trouble understanding it.

Throwing has the same point as attempting to fight a match against a smurf or cheater

there is no point… so… people throw because they have no chance to win, its the path of least resistance

Not to mention people love to throw as soon as their team starts doing their usual horrible stuff: terrible hero picks, feeding, staggering, etc. It’s a way to punish bad players – the same kinds of players who’ve screwed them in the past.

I do not trust the perception of people in lower ranks in what constitutes as “bad” or “good”.

The irony by throwing they are then screwing themselves. But it is a game and a simple requeue and an avoid will do.

Sometimes I did have people throw because they did not like me as a person(as in my race, etc…and yes they admitted this!), and then tryhard the next game to try and beat me.

People being people. Hopefully OP doesn’t let them ruin the game for him. Avoid/Block and move on. They want to get a rise out of you and make the game unfun for you. That’s their goal cuz it makes them feel better.

I’m sure many OWL players consider many GMs bad. So this is a sliding scale. At what rank then do players gain the ability to discern capable peers from incapable ones?

They’re beyond caring I’m sure. The period of time where players en masse actually cared about rank/OW is long gone.

I put joining voice chat up there with filing taxes and invasive dental work.

God himself isn’t sure what you meant there.
