Whats the definition of boosting?

If im playing on an alt and playing not what im good at and thats considered throwing so then if i play what im good at its considered boosting. I dont get the report system man

Boosting is when you play on another persons account with the intention of getting them to a higher rank than they would be had they been playing that account themselves. Usually boosting involves you getting paid by that person too.

Boosting is also purposefully de ranking and then climbing. Also known as smurfing but they call it boosting officially.

You can also boost your self:
Play only a hero you are good at and can easily rank up with.
And then on the rank you like play a hero you like but aren’t good enough with.
Or being carried by a higher ranked friend to a certain rank…

Boosted just means: get your account SR to a rank much higher then your skill level. Then play on a level far below it. Destroying lots of games for others.

So boosted players are as bad for the game as down-ranking players
(down ranking = players who bring their SR to a level far below their skill, to be able to get easy games, usually they do this with a second account and not their main -> having multiple accounts isn’t the problem here(according to some it is) , but the down-ranking is. Having another account to practice heroes that you aren’t good enough on yet you cant do on your main account, since you will be
boosted if you do.)

Playing heroes you don’t play on an unranked alt is not throwing. You will land in the appropriate SR with those heroes.

These guys are pretty much there. Boosting can be different things. But high level guys see it as a job I think. People pay for you to get their accounts higher just like Ectozar said.

There are 2 types of boosting and smurfing is not boosting.

First, as mentioned earlier is playing someone else’s account to raise them to an SR they do not belong in.

Second is a higher ranked person grouping with a lower ranked person with the intent of carrying. While 1000 SR gap allows this, the higher rank will often throw to lower SR before boosting to make the games easier or be within the 1000 SR gap.

It’s usually obvious when people are boosting aand I report.

Except you don’t have to be higher ranked or even better than someone you’re boosting. The only thing that matters is that you are better than you SR, which is why a low gold player that plays like a plat can boost a diamond.

Boosting is simply Helping someone else to get onto a higher rating by either

  • playing with him (allowed to play and “boost” your friends who are lower than you as long as you can boost - you will get an equally high enemy anyway)
    ^ selfplay
  • playing on someones account (obviously not allowed)
    ^ Accountplay
