What's even the point?

Of adding OW on steam? Anyone who wants to play OW will just download Battlenet. Steam isn’t going to attract new players.

Or am I missing something?

If it runs on the Deck, it gives players a better portable OW than Switch could ever hope to attain (also with less finagling than trying to install it through other means).

Other than that… yeah I dunno

How well would it even run on a steam deck though? Switch is 30 fps and I can’t see deck being much better than that.

It’s not atrocious for modern games. Quick search pulls up some quotes saying things like RDR2 running at 40-45fps to numerous other titles like DOOM 2016, Monster Hunter Rise, and MGS V (to name a few) running at 60. OW2 might be a different beast in comparison to most of those (for better or worse) but I wouldn’t expect 30 lock like Switch at the least.

So not 30 but still below average?

Millions of people refuse to download any other launcher.

OW2 on Steam will attract a whole new level of people to this game.

COD was always a flop on PC (before Warzone 1). COD MW2 got a Steam release and sold millions. Activision even said that making COD exclusive to Battle net was a huge mistake.

So it is a mistake not having OW2 on Steam…

That’s just weird :joy:

What’s the difference between steam and Battlenet? Is it because it takes up more space or what?

Maybe. Think we’ll just have to wait and see

The deck demolishes the Switch in terms of hardware and it isn’t even close. You need to remember the switch is 6 years old and was outdated then, that thing is a dinosaur and I’m surprised any developers are developing anything for it.
You can LITERALLY run a switch emulator on the deck and have switch games running better emulated through the deck then they do on the native hardware.

What you miss is that there are a lot of people that:

  1. Dont have any other launchers on the PC (and never will have)
  2. People who dont consume gaming content or are in communities never heard of OW (so a lot of casual players could be joining the game)
  3. To make is available on steam deck could also be a point, but in general steam has a much wider audience

Also: OW never had advertisement if I remember correctly. Simple Steam advertisement could help also. People who know OW2 know OW1, but most people are just not in the loop.

TLDR: To reach a lot of casual players.

There is not a single soul interested in online MP shooters who hasn’t heard of OW. These people do not exist.

For me yes. My potato pc already has the epicgames launcher + steam + EA launcher + Minecraft launcher. I had to download Bnet to get into the OW2 beta and immediately got rid of it afterwards to make space.

(The fact that you can’t play sims without EA’s godawful launcher makes me sad every day)

Battle is used exclusively to play Act-Blizz games, while Steam is considered the ‘‘King Launcher’’, where you play all the games, where all your friends are, where there are 130 millions monthly users.

So Act-Blizz is going where people are.

What’s even the point to anything?

Until recently, I was a doomer. I was well hated true. But at least I had an identity.
Now, the very people I always argued with are also spitting on Blizzard.

I could switch sides and defend Blizzard to keep things interesting but not only is this going to be incredibly hard to think of a good and entertaining way to do it, but I suspect pretty soon, I’ll be the only one remaining, just defending Blizzard into the void with noone else to argue with.

What’s even the point?

A lot of people have a pretty large “don’t want to install another launcher” thing going on.

I can play the story mode on my steam deck without having to watch some YouTube tutorial on how to install non steam games and play them without going into desktop mode.

It runs very well through the YouTube tutorial mode so imagine just right out installing it in the library.

Steam is the worlds largest and most used online gaming platform. allowing more and easier traffic to Overwatch without the hassle of downloading battle.net and other third party systems. It will generate tons of traffic.

This, pretty much. The numbers won’t be nearly as substantial as the swap from buy2play to F2P, but there will be mild growth for the first month or two.

steam is one of the best clients in the hub community. has multiple advantages to see overwatch in steam:

  • it is extremely probable that you have many of your friends that you really know (a work colleague, a schoolmate, a relative, etc.) are on steam, and therefore it is already a place to meet for free in your free time instead of jumping on battlenet or discord.
  • Don’t underestimate the tremendous help and sharing workshops of Steam, one of the best creative units in video games. imagine people releasing really useful guides to learn how to do or workshops to those who want to start with them, and unfortunately the official forum is not very effective in this type of links.
  • being on steam means always notifying when overwatch receives an update, certainly much more visible than a battle net with its scarce videogame variety.
  • steam deck, does it really need to be said?

they are all notes that have benefited games like the sims (especially in the workshop / guide side). so yeah, it’s a nice symptom to be on steam.

in reality i see no point like steam cant save the game when the devs only listen and cater to pro’s and some other groups…if they really want to save this game they need to take all input into consideration for what is best for the community like pros in reality dont know what is best and heck even some pros are probably fakes that actively hack instead of playing legit
