Hog hooks you, does some trash damage and you just get away. There is no point in even respecting him.
Do you wonder why no one wants to play tank? Maybe don’t make the only fun tank unplayable. Playing tank is miserable.
The only fun tank in lower ranks, huh? Sounds to me like you’re just not that good at tanks and Hog having been a char with the easiest value gain in the game carried you to wherever you are.
he’s getting a rework at some point. the nerf was just to tide people over until it’s implemented
The whole point of the hook was creating a 20m exclusion zone in hogs line of sight, it’s the foundation of his kit, and what defines him as a tank. Go inside the 20m zone, there’s a good chance you die, forcing the enemy team to deal with him first before they can advance, which is what makes them focus him, and thus makes him a valid tank. By removing the danger of the 20m zone, he no longer creates space, and no longer attracts primary attention from the enemy team. Other than being a bullet sponge with a fat hitbox to sit behind, he’s totally non functional as a tank unless there is a cliff right next to him to do the damage he should be doing.
I’ve played many hundreds of hours of hog, and I’ve always wanted faster hook cooldowns, I should be happy right now, but much like mercy mains, I feel my character has been made completely not-fun for me all because everyone else cried so much.
This is the equivelant:
It’s not fun to be headshot by widow, we should remove crits from her gun.
Aiming at genji is not fun we should remove his double jump.
It’s not fun being unable to kill reaper, we should remove his heal.
It’s not fun having your ult swallowed by Dva we should remove her defence matrix.
It’s not fun being slept by ana we should remove her sleep dart.
All of those things are defining mechanics for those characters, removing them would make them completely not fun and frustrating to play. But that’s what the community of largely dps players are constantly bullying the devs into doing to other classes.
If you walked in the 20m death zone of hog, if you let his fat self slowly make his way over to you for a kill, then you deserve to die. You didn’t die due to his one shot combo, you died due to not respecting the enemy tank and not correcting your positioning. He punished you for playing badly, and you need to learn from that, not pressure the devs into vandalising his character.
The nerf was to make him useless until the rework comes yes indeed.
Put curiosity how would you have felt if they nerfed his hook range to 15 meters and/or a nerf to his survivability but still one shot hook combo?
80% outta cases the player will die . Cuz you hook ‘em out from their safe zone and bring them into your team zone where they get finished .
Nerf to 15m would make him even more unviable due to no enemy damage fall off, you’re within basically everyone’s high dps range and probably dead before hook even travels the distance.
If you want to temp nerf hog before rework; Imo they should just revert his fire rate back down to what it originally was, and nerf his ammo back down to 4 shots. I preferred hog being all about that exclusion zone, playing that chess game with the enemy to provide space for your team to work. I disliked it every time they made him more spammy with higher fire rate and more ammo.
I’d be happy with 2 shots in my gun, lower fire rate, and 2 hook charges like Zarya shields. That would make his an important pick to make before moving forward, putting him back up to tank status.
Unless Zarya, reaper, tracer, moira, etc.
Anyone with any kind of damage resist or mobility escapes unless you’re very accurately communicating your hook timing to the team. Which given hook sometimes has a mind of its own who it grabs…
Or and here me out… don’t nerf fun characters

We call that “counterplay.”
Hook them whip around and place that support in the middle of your team and they wont get away your no longer a one man one shot armor and you shouldn’t have been one in the first place

hooking a target into your team should be a kill and not alone by the tank while the 4 other teammates are afk…
theres 0 teamwork involved with old hook littleraly zero unless we talk about getting a one shot combo on the enemy tank maybe.
Counterplay was just shooting his fat butt from afar, its not like he was an easy to miss target.
Seriously if you got hook and killed you simply had to dealt with it, you respawn faster than he recovers the CD. There was a dozen of ways to nerf Hog: reduce his hp or his vape, Up the hook CD…
I dont know everything but removing his whole identity. This game is slowly turning into a very ordinary and boring shooter games but with bullet sponges.
Hi, Hook is very very powerful. I play sig and hog as my main two tanks (3 hours on hog and 2 on sig) and I’m currently rank 32 on tank. Hog is somewhat situational but, in those situations he succeeds very well. Just along as he isn’t countered he can be played to some success. Just learn your secondary shots. Also I can still oneshot most DPS in the game.
I do find myself prioritizing tanks more with the lower cooldown now.
It’s still dangerious, especially if your team starts shooting into the hook target. Like use coms or chat to let them know how to work with the new hook.
that and a bit of pre fire will get you a kill just fine.
Like they have a little wiggle room, but not much. Hog is still in the rework machine tho, so expect something next season.
Also six second hook means you can hook winston while leaping and in his escape attempt. So theirs that.
I ping who I hook so my team can focus and kill them before the hook animation ends.
