What was the reason for removing in game rank symbols

I think I’ve seen a few streamer edit it on by why was it removed in the first place?

Rank shaming probably. Players get angry (rightfully!) when you get masters players in your T500 lobby or plats in your diamond lobby

Makes sense but I’m the ui without it looks lame

Why not just have it only viewable by yourself then? Same with levels.

I’d be happy enough only seeing my own rank, but as it stands, ranked feels the same as playing QP in beta 2. There are no stakes, lack of feedback and since the soft reset, I’m pretty sure you can rank up with a negative winrate.

It’s now a quickplay & it will die soon. The reason people play rank is to show off their achievements.

Yeah, at least have it on the player’s screen for when watching streamers

That’d be the logical answer, but it’s not

It’s to hide the fact that you’re getting sent anywhere across the spectrum to fill the holes and make it look like the queue times are decent

I barely made it to plat and still have a way to go, it’s going to take forever since the game keeps sending me fill the support queue in bronze and silver where the outcome of games is essentially a dice roll

Seems like most every decision that Overwatch makes is to cover up how bad the matchmaker is. Hide SR, hide tier symbols, hide MMR, hide your current rank until you win 7 or lose 20, hide matchmaking algorithms. At this rate after the next patch you won’t even play the game, they will email you your rank on a quarterly basis and give you no other information.

I’d be very surprised if a negative w/l ranks you up when you get close to your actual rank. Maybe in the first 20 or so games but likely not after that. The system feels good. Less toxic easier to rank up.

Matchmaker is grooming you. Just wait until you get on the other side of the matches and it’s almost impossible to win.

It shouldn’t rank me up period. I am. Literally losing more than I win and still climb. If the game thinks I should be higher but my performance isn’t enough for me to win then the game is wrong.

That being said, the game doesn’t have a role wide winrate stat (this games stats are pathetic btw) so I can’t guarentee that I do have a negative winrate, maybe im in the low 50s but I shouldn’t be climbing at the rate I am with such a winrate.
