What was Moth Meta?

They were both trash but at least a kill under goats was a kill earned and not just a fourth af a rez

Uh, no it wasn’t.
The Moth meta sucked for support mains, but it was easily the most diverse meta for tanks and DPSes–and hell, for the 50% of support players who weren’t stuck playing Mercy, they could play pretty much anyone else as an off-healer as well. If one thing can be said for Mercy–and indeed, even more so for MOTH–she is a very versatile healer and can enable just about anything.

and did we just forget the week that Bastion was meta, because I that was the worst meta

We had diversity but it still sucked. The entire game was locked to the tempo of rez and valk.

Bastion meta lasted a week while Moth terrorized the game for 6 months I believe. Blizzard are just quick to kill a meta if it’s a DPS controlling it, especially an unpopular one like Bastion.

(Can’t remember how long it really was but it was about 2 entire seasons of competitive when a season used to last 3 months).

actually 1 month because i looked in previous patch notes and it said that September 19th 2017: (Mercy 2.0)
Then it said October 17th 2017: you were only able to rez two people.

Nah, even after that res nerf she was still meta until about February 2018. I still remember all the “The witch is dead” posts when the sledgehammer came. I also remember saying to myself “How do they let this cancer last for this many months”.

Then Goats came ahah… Then double shield…

At least they didn’t let Dragon Grav meta last too long which was what briefly came after Moth died. That meta ties double shield in being the most boring to play.

For a lot of Mercy mains, it was the worst thing to ever happen to the hero.

All of a sudden, any player with two thumbs could get a level of value with Mercy that was previously skillgated and limited to the best players in the world.

Beam juggling? No need to practice that, just press Q to have the game do it for you.

Survival skills with proactive positioning and GA management? No need to practice that, just press Q and get out of any sticky situation scott-free.

Tempo rezzing? No need to gitgud with the rest of Mercy’s kit first, or become a master of gamesense and strategy. Just press E when-hekkin-ever you see a dead body. It doesn’t even carry the old risk of doing more harm than good if you end up wasting rez on a dumb teammate that immediately dies again!

Mercy 2.0 drasitically dumbed her down and oversimplified her skill ceiling… And because of that, Mercy mains were pissed.

For almost two years, the Overwatch Forums was a solid wall of feedback threads from Mercy mains begging the devs to revert the Moth and try alternatives that would raise her skill ceiling.

A significant chunk of Mercy’s playerbase quit maining her because of the Moth rework… Which ended up having cascading effects on the rest of the playerbase. Alongside cc and damage creep, the cutoff of a steady supply of healer mains crazy enough to volunteer to play Solo Healer on a regular basis was one of the biggest factors in tank players (and the remaining support players) burning out en masse and leaving Overwatch for greener pastures.

Everyone hated the Moth meta, but the majority of Classic Mercy mains took the cake on sheer, unadulterated loathing of what their hero had become.

I already addressed the point of “diversity” during Moth meta. I’m not gonna repeat myself, so you can go back and read some of my older posts in this thread.
