I’m just so baffled by the incredibly terrible gameplay by my teammates and enemy team. I’m having players fall off the map without being pushed or any sort. I’m having Ashe players throwing dynamite at themselves, suiciding by self-inflicted burns.
I even had some guy yell “LUCIO NOT SPOOD SPEED!!!”…
So, I now I wonder… I’ve been away for a bit… Is my hidden MMR placing me with these people? <.<
I play in diamond in pretty much every other competitive gamemode, including the normal competitive gamemode.
In CTF I was playing as support, I was playing as dps, I was playing as tank. I captured the flag, I returned/defended the flag. I had more wins than losses. I never threw, I never selfishly pick a Hero, I picked Heroes that was well suited for CTF and for what my teammates have picked.
Don’t spend any time trying to figure out how the matchmaker works, just know that it’s bad. Know that if you get better, your new skill will immediately be offset by having a scrub on your team, or by having someone just as good as you on the other team.
How do I know? I have an account in diamond, and a spare/joint account in mid platinum. When I’m in plat I am clearly the best person in every game on my team and I can recognize who the clear “carry” person on the other team is, he is my offset.
When I play in high Diamond, I am almost never the best person on my team (sometimes I am, most of the time I am avg) and I can clearly see that while I am doing my part, there is another person on my team that is doing double duty, if not triple duty to make up for the one person on our team who is just blatantly out of place.
In both tiers the matches are equally difficult to win, there is almost no difference in the difficulty because of the way the matchmaker forces balanced teams.
All of the people you see who say the matchmaker is fine, are the people who are at high tiers they shouldn’t be at, they get carried and stay at these high tiers because of team balancing/handicapping.
In your case it sounds like you’re at the high end of your tier, being forced to carry scrubs game after game just to stay at the rank you’re currently at. You can rank up, but it will be far more difficult than it ever should be. Make no mistake, there are people who are much less skilled than you who are probably 800+ SR higher than you are.
The real skill distribution is more like a ‘power law’ curve than a bell curve. With the majority actually in bronze and silver. But they want to force a more participation award friendly ‘Bell curve’ where majority are in high silver to plat. So hidden mmr is how they force that to happen. Just means that if you want to break out of the gravity of the average rank you need to be vastly superior, like a rocket uses most of its energy to overcome earths gravity. That is why t500s rank back up with ease.
This is true. I have ranked up twice and each time the sr gains were not any better then normal. Even when I was misplaced in low gold this season and I went on a 200 sr winstreak I still got the same 21-29 sr as usual.
