What the Heck is Damage Creep?

Exactly as the title says. Sorry if I’m being dumb.

It’s fine.

It’s basically when the amount of damage has been buffed too much to the point where the player dies more often and healing can’t do much against it.

So like a damage boosted Widow, or??

When the overall damage that heroes do is much higher than launch that tanks and supports can’t effectively do their job as a result

Healing creep is the reverse where healing is so high damage heroes can’t keep up and everything takes too long to die

Not really.

More like when they buffed McCree’s FtH in the past to the point it could melt everyone.

Widowmaker’s damage hasn’t been buffed.

So when something has been buffed to the point where it’s too much?

It was many moons ago, when the one known as “soldier” was made quite strong, many said that he was far too powerful. He was enslaved back to what he once was by the sheer force of the void known as the “forums”.

Many seasons passed, and as all those around him began to grow strong, he found his once lost power again. However… the void laughed at him as his once godlike power was now inferior to all the more powerful beings!

Soldier wondered “How could this happen, I was revered at one time and now when I return I am shamed!!!”

*swaps to mccree

That’s right

But it’s not just limited to damage. Increasing damage boasting can add to the power creep as well.

It’s the overall potential average damage that has been increased with each update.

I think McCree with the latest patch is a good example of this.

He has already been toned down, but a few patches ago was he buffed too much.

Thank you everyone

No problem.

Junkrat is pretty creepy so people call him damage creep

Many DPS heroes have gotten net buffs since the games release (or their individual releases). pretty much all of them really except Genji and Tracer have gotten net buffs.

In reality this is to keep up with how powerful healing and tanks have gotten. A few years ago Soldier had his current damage of 20/shot and it made him super meta and the dominant DPS. He got nerfed to 17/shot and fell out of favor. Now he has the same amount and is still bad.

Okay, since the thread’s basically done: where does the term “c9” come from? It seems to used when a winning team leaves the payload, but the other team wins anyway because a Sombra or whatever gets past and delivers the payload. Is it being used correctly there?

I thought “c9” just meant a dog.

It refers to the team Cloud9 who went by C9 for short. They now are the owners of the London Spitfire and British Hurricane.

Upon winning a fight (I think on Lijiang Night Market?) they got so caught up trying to finish off the other team or being aggro that they all forgot to cap and lost the match.

Ah, okay. Cheers!

Which is still what we have now.
Burst damage heroes like widow are preferred now cuz there is no other way to deal with all the huge amount of healing.

The two aren’t mutually exclusive.

In fact, if damage creep and healing creep are both a problem at the same time, you’d expect to see a meta where people play a lot of tanks (to withstand the large amounts of damage) combined with a lot of supports (to keep the tanks alive).

Sound familiar?

I think you misspelled nerf there. Genji Tracer got nerfs

Also all dps got a nerf when Zen discord was nerfed. Except Widow and Hanzo doesnt really need it that much.
