I think it’s either tied with diamond or low plat because that’s where I believe most 5/5 first time placements will get you if you’re on a new account and diamond is where smurfs generally start having a slightly harder time winning games

If it’s just alt accounts than it’s Gold or most likely Platinum, I believe fresh accounts essentially start around 2500 and depending on placement usually end up or down
As for playing on a lower ranked account it’s hard to say, majority of players are Plat/Gold so most Smurfs in Bronze/Silver are most likely Golds/Plats, but as I said that Plat/Gold is the starting rank so it could easily be those two
It wouldn’t be Diamond though, only a small percentage of players are Master or GM so it’s rare to see smurfs (if you define them by playing on a lower rank account) in Diamond

Jeff showed us before (back in 2017 or 2018) a histogram of competitive rankings, which turned out to be a bell-shaped distribution, with the peak centered roughly at 2500 SR. Assuming smurfs are distributed equally across the player population would mean the majority of them would be found in gold and plat.
I hate seeing people in gold and plat whine about smurfs. the thing is, not all smurfs are good smurfs. ideally, you want to place 3300 and get into Masters prior to level 30 if you’re a GM/T500 smurfer. a level 40-50 stuck in diamond is barely a smurf and they’ve hit their skill level. complaining about that is silly because they failed to climb.
the real thing you should be cared of is high diamond/low masters. if you queue into a level 28 at 3550 sr, that’s it, you’re screwed. not some level 40 in plat, no no, the dreaded level <30 in Masters elo. that’ll legitimately ruin ur games. I play in the exact elo (low masters) where every smurf is a good smurf. not the case in low diamond and below. you know theyre all good smurfs bc they made it up here
Try being bronze with smurfs. Bronze players are already bad. Now add players who can click heads from across the map and laugh about it. All they have to do is the bare minimum to keep from getting kicked from match. Team loses they lose sr and stay in low ranks.
100 percent its diamond. That is where all the no lifes who wanna test out a new hero play.
They’ll also soft throw by doing weird stuff like going in and pretending to fight then ‘accidentally’ falling off the map and stuff. Or playing tank, they will drop their shield at the worst moment possible to ensure everyone dies. Those are the most insidious smurfs, those who throw in that manner to stay in low elo and only people who have seen it time and again realize it’s happening.
