I think John Swasey bringing out his gruff BL2 Salvador voice, with a more islander twist, could work out maybe.
I think his name means ‘mountain’ in Samoan.

He looks very Polynesian. Also looks like Maui from Moana as some have noted already. Due to that resemblance I unironically would like The Rock to voice him

Personally, I hope not. Don’t get me wrong, the Rock is a great actor, and easily the most famous Polynesian actor on the books (which is a surprisingly competitive category). But getting such a high profile voice would be A: expensive, B: hard to schedule updates for whenever they need new voicelines. Besides, Overwatch has been a great opportunity to let talented lesser known voice actors shine (as well as a few regulars of the profession and Blizz favorites, to be sure).

You know, after replaying some Borderlands Pre-Sequel and reminding me of various shows, I think Bryan Massey could also do a good enigmatic, psycho voice for Mauga. I heard he took tons of accent classes, maybe he could pull off an islander?

Personally, if they can’t find a good enough actor with Samoan heritage to be authentic, then Kevin Michael Richardson is my choice. He’s a veteran voice actor that I think could play multiple styles of Mauga’s personality, be it light and friendly or loud, angry and roaring with varying degrees of menace and malice behind his words.
I swear, with the range on this man’s voice and his experience, it would be a great choice in my opinion.
