What makes your hero so fun?

Kind of a psychology question, I guess. What keeps you coming back to said hero. Are there any particular moments/plays you live for?

Winning can be fickle, so I don’t necessarily have to win. It’s nice, but I’d rather finish a match having played widow well. Placing in FFA is awesome, getting is rare, hardly ever.

On the other hand, I can get discouraged if I’m unable to make plays. I’m not going to base my enjoyment of OW on simply if I win. That’s absurd. But I do need to play well in order to have a good game. I know that’s not always possible.

I like to go Echo and completely dome the guy I copied just for the sake of it.

I like how Sombra offers unique solutions to problems beyond just burning a target’s HP down.

Mercy because:

  • good smooth movement
  • movement techs

Tho sadly both of these reasons have been butchered.

I like how dropping Sound Barrier can either win a fight or be a complete throw within 0.09 seconds (sorry, tank, I tried) (I was sitting on beat the entire time he was dying)

Lifeweaver is macro- and awareness-heavy and there are limitless creative applications for his abilities.

His healing tempo is kind of my style; I like how important decision-making and prioritization are.

Petal platform jumping is fun

Hitting people with Kunai feels good, lol. Kiri has a good mix of healing and damage with a great ult.

Junkrat has been my dps main longer than I have held a support or tank main. I love that I don’t need sweaty, tryhard aim that only stresses me out. I always enjoy the flare of explosions and his chaotic nature is amusing to me. Also, despite the complaints and opinions of the masses, he requires a unique kind of skill. Predicting pathing or when an opponent will expose themselves so you can give them that wombo combo of nade/mine. He has unique mobility and an ult that requires an unusual awareness as it is among the few ults that can be destroyed/made useless, but is SO satisfying when it delivers a triple kill or higher (or you chase down that annoying Mercy)

I keep playing Mercy just because I feel the most helpful with her? idk. there’s things I should definitely see a therapist about that makes my brain happy when I play Mercy and I get to be a little pixie, a little pest, and I fly around and res someone that’s doing a lot and occasionally pop Valk to dmg boost someone, and I feel like I’m being useful, even if I’m truly not doing a single thing.

Lucio is the same but boost the mischief feeling. I like feeling like I’m bothering the enemy team. I am someone who does something inconsequential because someone told me not to and listen, I played in a skrim for a friend like a couple months back and apparently the team my friend coaches hated dealing with my Lucio. in one game one of them who was spectating called my Lucio ‘disgusting’ (I truly wasn’t doing that much that game) and then I kept Lijiang Gardens contested long enough for my team to return and get team kills twice. there is nothing like being an absolute pain to deal with.

Junkrat go boom. I like boom. also playing Junkrat makes me feel smart; I put the trap down in a small space and then an enemy walks into trap and dies. brain releases the real good chemicals because hee hee kills number goes brr.

they’re my three most-played in terms of hours, but Winston is one of my faves to play even though I don’t play him much anymore and he feels very Lucio-esque in terms of being annoying. also used to just crank my in-game sensitivity up to 100 and start beyblading if I felt like my group were getting too frustrated. it usually got a good reaction from the enemy team, too.

My heroes are always fast or with high mobility 'cause I can’t stand static / slow heroes.

I need to stay in action as much as possible to remain focused, hence why speed and mobility are important to me in FPS games.

The only exception would be Ana 'cause she has so much in her kit. I love using sleep and switching between hitscan and projectile shooting. Her kit is so broken with grenade that it’s imposible not tp play her and, she’s fun to play.

Honestly idk what it is. But nothing has even come remotely close to the dopamine that doom gives. The techs, the skill ceiling, the movement, the ability based hero design, the combo based design (although much less with tank version).

It’s just unmatched. Anytime I hop on another role or hero, I’m like itching to play doom again.

If you break down “fun” to the level of neural mediators you will ended up with classical four:
1.Serotonin – good feeling when you win with this hero
2.Dopamine – when hero has potential and you need to learn more how to play this hero
3.Oxytocin – mostly apperas for support heroes (they take care of wounds ) but also triggers if you have good unity with your team
4.Cartisole – stress, usually from loosing games, we try to avoid it. Sometimes we force ourselves to play hero that cause stress because dopamine overshadows cortisol.

Each person has persinal matrix how those neural mediators balanced , and its dynamic structure.

My persinal balance includes Mercy and Juno but owc is very rewarding(Serotonin) to play widowmaker, I got more pogs in one week as owc widowmaker than few months of ow2 mercy/juno

I’m playing Moira since Mercy rework and because I can’t play Ana properly.

Its not a choice driven by fun but more because Moira has been the hero I got the best results with.

I have a lot of fun as Queen because I feel she sets up situations and if I’m taking the right decisions along with her Cooldowns and positioning, I feel immediately rewarded by kills and self healing.
But she’s not my most played cause in 1/2/2 format, I keep being flamed just for picking her, no matter if I do well or not. Just because people want a shield.
