What is with stadium hate?

I can understand some things about it but the overall gamemode is really fun and there is going to be new content every season to keep it somewhat fresh.

I only played one game, won it, never touched it again. Moreover, I cannot tell you what it is, but it is not my cup of tea…it felt…rival-esque and I hated that game…maybe this is it

Its not payload on kings row, so its a bad mode according to people on here.

The reason is that not all of us agree with this part of what you are saying. For me, I do not find it fun at all. I just don’t like it. It’s not the experience I come to Overwatch for in the slightest.

So, while I am happy that some people do enjoy it, for me this isn’t enjoyable. I like the core game mode, but just have no desire to play Stadium at all. It’s a different game. It is Overwatch themed, but it isn’t Overwatch.

No counterswapping and hardcounters. Meaning you can literally flatout lose before the match has even began, then some characters get perks to counter the counters while others don’t. Genji gets to deflect beams but if there’s a Kiri on the enemy team, all of Mei’s builds become completely useless.

Also there are builds that are just unbeatable that as a whole just ruins the mode. Either Kiriko TP’s in with an aimbot sidekick, instantly melts you with no counterplay because if you try to fight back she has suzu and reduces her TP cooldown so low you LITERALLY can’t kill her in time or there’s a juno infinitely boosting around the match going mach 19 getting overhealth everytime she does it beaming you down with a gun that ramps up in damage everytime she presses shift.

Then if it’s not the builds, the matchmaker is actively working against you putting actual brand new players who have never touched the game before on your team despite the fact you’re in pro. All this just removes any player agency and makes the mode absolutely miserable, then you’re stuck in it for 20 minutes.

Stadium needs hero bans to be fun. Stadium without Zarya, Cass and Mercy is a dream come true.

I have no hate for the mode, but it feel like they brought it out to quick after adding Perks, and have abandoned the main games general balance and Perk updates like they planned to have in order to dump all updates into Stadium.

The amount of Stadium patch notes dwarf the rest of the games patch notes each update, and even the main game changes feel like they are just to adjust Stadium now…

The only thing I hate is the matchmaking, if there even is any.

3 times tonight either one or both of the DPS on my team were level 1 endorsement players who played like it’s their first time playing OW, and in one of the games, one of them quit during round 1.

I should not be doing more damage than both DPS combined as Moira, yet I regularly am, while still doing a decent amount of healing.

They REALLY need to bring back the in-game LFG feature, cos that would put an end to most of my gripes with the matchmaking.

I’m excited and very bullish on the stadium game mode. I just think it has/is going the wrong direction. I think it is a big oversight to have this new exciting game mode with all these new abilities and playstyles; then to just balance the game around the least interesting aspects of this game (to me).

Auto aim soldier 76? Auto aim rocket 76? Auto aim juno torpedos? Auto aim kiriko clone?
They created such an interesting concept and game mode around an already great game but (In my opinion) they chose the most boring, corny and uninteractive characters and builds to balance the game around.

And now the first post launch character they release is Freja? A sniper who can fly? Who also has an auto aim power? Freja Soldier76 and Ashe (in my opinion) limit interaction between characters due to the amount of damage they can output from a safe distance. To me seems the opposite of what I would priotise adding to the Stadium gamemode. I think they should have balanced the more boring builds and characters to be below average if they are going to add them at all. It really seems counter productive for them to have the best builds be the least interactive.

I fear they made all these decisions not as a mistake; but they purposefully designed it to be this way and this is actually what they want. If that is the case then I’m not interested (just my opinion).

I think hitscan heros are some of the least interesting characters in the whole game yet it feels they almost exclusively cater towards them in this new Stadium game mode.

I think characters like Mei, Junkrat, Genji and Reaper (and others) can be much more interesting and can be given interesting builds to play around. These characters have distinct strengths and weaknesses and in Stadium they can expand on their niche while still being counterable. They have a place in Stadium and I have faith that Blizzard will be able to balance them appropriately. (Unlike Freja who doesn’t belong in Overwatch or Stadium at all in her current state imo)

I think the Mei rolling ball power is a good example of a build that can create unique gameplay. Ideally powers like these should be situational, be counterable and come with a tradeoff in another aspect of her build.

I would be happy to see items or powers with drawbacks. If Mei is building utility than I would be fine to see that come with a -%10 damage debuff in return. Or if Soldier 76 wants to fully commit to a high damage per second build maybe he can have a -%10 move speed debuff in return for +%20 weapon damage. Or if Rein wants to be full tank maybe he can have the option to give up a firestrike charge for more health and a bigger shield? etc etc

I think adding a few items like this creates a lot more nuance in the builds and allows us to properly specialise our builds.

As it stands every lobby I play has two Soldier 76s with either a Cass, Freja or Ashe all being pocketed by a 400hp damage boosting Mercy. To me that’s just boring. I play Overwatch because it’s not just another shooter. I hate these lobbies and I hate that its the most productive build.

I hope Blizzard retracts some builds and brainstorms some more interesting stuff. I really hope they continue working on Stadium. I don’t think they should be afraid to walk back on some of the choices they have made. I see great potential but for me it has had a rough start due to their choice of meta builds.

The best games of Stadium I have had felt like brawls with long battles and close calls until some outplay or clutch ult decided the fight. I look forward to seeing what else they come up with but for the moment I’m disinterested. Maybe other people ā€˜hate’ stadium for other reasons but for me thats what it is currently holding back my enjoyment the most.

I can understand that, I think my main argument comes from just seeing constant hate with little evidence supporting it, like I enjoy it, even though it has a lot of flaws, idk I was just wondering why some people were so adamant about stadium being a terrible gamemode.

They promised new perks every season.

NO.

See, that’s the problem.
Launch Stadium was perfect.

Freja alone almost killed it. Now Sigma’s giga-meta and the other tanks suck because Junkrat and Zen erase them from existence.

Can’t wait for Doomfist to have a one-punch group-punch or Pharah to automatically win matches if no hitscans/D.va are selected!

There are 70 new powers added to the game between junk, sigma, and zen. They each got 12 ā€œpowersā€ and then they also got the unique upgrades in weapon, ability, and survival. 70 new powers. Like you have to try to miss those.

powers for stadium, perks for other modes, whatever, 99% of them sucks anyway, they promised a lot of new powers and perks and updates, not even a season later another promise broken, they can change every perk and game will still suck

they are no new powes, they are the corresponding powers for the characters the developers failed to add at launch, the mode is incomplete, same crap powers for the other characters were not updated, and the powers sucks anyway, have you seen what mcree does? nothing. they need years to develop a power that says ā€œ5% shield instead of hpā€?

70 new powers were factually added just because you hate 95% of Overwatch doesn’t take away that fact that 70 powers/upgrades were added. Just because you hold what is it a 2-3 year grudge against a video game doesn’t change 70 powers being added.

yes it change because already told powers are lame and crap, from those 70, 60 or more are passives that changes nothing fundamental of how a character is played, they are lazy things like, bigger rock, two traps, where are the actual new powers that change the gameplay? they need years to develop the most basic crap ever?

The only thing I hate is that you cannot switch. You can lose right at spawn.

There are abilities to stop beams, but they stopped at that.

Launch stadium was perfect

insanity

Time to let it go buddy, Overwatch 2 launched years ago and I don’t see how its helpful to keep talking about it
