What is Valkyrie supposed to do?

I’ve decided to come back to the game after a 3-4 month break (The mercy nerfs destroyed my interest in playing).

I’ve now played about 20 or so rounds of comp and have learned the following.

I cannot keep my team alive in Valk.

Is Valk supposed to keep my team alive, or me? Chain healing does nothing when the enemy team knows how to focus fire. Every fight plays out the same way:

  1. Looks like this is gonna be a big one, lets pop Valk.
  2. Character1 is taking damage, lets heal them, and it’ll chain heal the rest of the team.
  3. Character1 has died.
  4. Ok, lets retarget and chain heal someone else.
  5. Someone Else has died.
  6. Goto 4

Team is wiped, I’m alive…uhh guess I’ll fly back to spawn.

Thats assuming I don’t die from a widow, hanzo, junkrat, or any other character who honestly has NO problem picking me outta the sky (In GM comp. I realize that bronze players have difficulty hitting a flying mercy).

Occasionally I’ll try to go in for the res, but 9 times out of 10, when going in for the res, someone else has died during the 3 seconds it takes to fly to my target, press E, and wait for the res animation. So we’re net neutral on the amount of players on the team now. Thats assuming I live, which often I don’t. And when I die, it even MORE solidifies the fact that we’re gonna lose the fight. So I rarely go in for the res anymore.

Chain damage boost you say? I’m sorry, but no.

Best case scenario: Zen’s no cooldown ‘e’ ability gives 6 players a 30% damage boost. Mercy’s ultimate gives 5 players a 30% damage boost (She can’t fire while damage boosting, zen can). (Best case assumes your team is focus firing with zen, and clumped together with mercy, either scenario can have less than optimum damage boosting).

So again, I ask. Whats the point of Valkyrie?

Solution

  • The focus of Mercy’s healing beam gets 90HPS (50% more).
  • The chain heal targets of Mercy’s healing beam gets 45HPS (25% less)

Net total this is less healing overall in the ‘everyone needs health’ scenario, but thats a rare scenario to be fair.

What this will give us is the following:

  • A better chance of keeping single targets alive (What Mercy is supposed to be good at).
  • More of a skillful decision around who to heal and when.
  • More fun in Valk, because its not just “Pick random target and hold left mouse”
    * its consider who needs the most healing and focus.

Thoughts?

Addendum: IF you wanna be extra special nice, do the same with Damage boost. 40% to the target, and 20% to the chain damage boosts. Something like that.

Sight-seeing, its hands down the best ultimate for admiring the maps, what else could you possibly ask for?!

The point is being pretty safe in a teamfight while healing the whole team. Normally you would have a second healer that will help you.

Also dmg boosting when you see that your team is winning is a useful thing too.

I covered both of those scenarios in my post. Neither are actually true.

It’s best used as an engagement ultimate. Use it as your team is going in. If they group up properly you heal most of them, which makes it incredibly useful.

If you haven’t worked it out yet then I don’t know how anyone can help you

I mean, the 30% dmg boost on all teammates is pretty good and it’s what I try to use unless they need healing.

but yeah, I think her healing during valkyrie could use a small boost so it could maybe feel more supportive, rather than a “press Q to get an aerial view of your teammates dying”.

Yeah being pretty safe is not exactly easy if you go in front of the enemy team flying… Positioning right is required.
Also what exactly is not true about healing the whole team? That’s literally what it does. And another healer like Lucio will help so your team will recieve a lot of healing.
Same for dmg boosting.

2flylol.

It doesn’t save people. It saves you. It makes your job so much easier and allows you to focus on your own survival while taking away the difficulty of healing your entire team.

i think Jeph already said the last about Mercy. It sounded that they won’t touch her for a very very long time.

Sight seeing and fragging.

If you pop Valk as your team is going in that signals to the enemy team “ultfight coming”, so they are immediately going to start popping their ults, which all beat valk. Best case scenario you use it to bait the enemy ults while the rest of your team saves theirs.

Mercy also can get her ult super fast though, so if you bank ults you can often go in during a fight where the enemy doesn’t have anything except for like pulse bomb.

It’s a “win more” ulti. You don’t use it to suddenly turn the tide of the battle, you use it to push the advantage even more. 15 seconds is still quite a long time.

Wrong. Since Mercy’s rework she has one of the slowest ults in the game. The actual ult charge required to get Valk went up almost 40% over Resurrect, and meanwhile healing done during Valk itself doesn’t charge your next valk so you effectively lose a teamfight worth of charge, GREATLY reducing how many you get over the course of a match.

Increase Mercy’s presence, buff her evasiveness, give her AOE. Basically, it’s in discription. Make everything better.

The ultimate is better for pushing and surviving basic team fights. It wasn’t designed to completely nullify another ultimate. She gets it so fast that every major team fight Mercy should be using Valkyrie.

It’s not an ultimate you hang on to for poops and giggles, waiting for the right moment. It’s the same with Mei’s ultimate, sometimes you need to use it just to get the enemy off the objective or secure your team some extra time.

So in other words Mercy’s ult counters non ults, but doesn’t counter any other ults?

Thats…awful :frowning:

Its also wrong. The enemy team doens’t need to ult to out do 60hps. Soldier alone can out damage that. The enemy team focus fires my healing target, and they’ll outdo 60 HPS without any ults easily. My target dies, onto the next, rinse/repeat.

Well, I’m sitting over here with a crap ton of time on Ana and Reinhardt, and all I can say is it can be worse.

Mercy is fine right now. She’s not bugged. She’s consistent. She’s reliable. She won’t be getting changes for awhile. Other heroes need attention right now.
