What is this matchmaking

Blizzard, what is this 50/50 matchmaking. I win a game and then I lose a game, I play very well in both games, actually I play worse in the game I won. What kinda half baked matchmaking is this. I am playing in Diamond and these teammates are playing like actual bronze players. I have seen gold players that understand the game better. This is a team based game no matter what mmr I have there is no reason the teammates I get play worse than bots.

The matchmaker and ranked system is trash in this game, literal trash.

You cna play like a god, but if you’ve got 4 bots on your team that doesn’t know what they’re doing or where they’re going etc, you lose.

Personal performance isn’t accounted for in this game sadly, but it is something they need to look into implementing. It’s a team based game, sure, but when you play with random people, all who have different opinions and ideas on how to play while some even throw the game or grief their own team (Mei Ice Wall, LW grip), you’re literally just a lone wolf without a team, and that’s why we need our personal performance to be accounted for when calculating our ranks, and that is something the game is more than capable of doing, as it has been tracking our performance stats per game for years already.

Don’t you dare complain about matchmaking here or you’ll summon the matchmaking warriors telling you that you get teammates with the same skill than you so if they’re awful so are you and to git gud and that matchmaking is amazing and works well and that blizzard should be rewarded company of the year and…

Yup.

You are not playing the game. The game is playing you.

Mark Rubin (ex CoD dev who left company since they added shady match making to activision games) said in an official interview that activision games are using AI to determine your engagement and rig games in a way that keeps the most amount of people playing the game. This means the AI will force you to lose if you are winning too much, and it will throw you a free win when it thinks you will get tired and quit the game. The name of the algorithm is called EOMM, you can read multiple papers on it on google scholar for more info.

I’m convinced at this point that the matchmaking system is purposely rigging matches in favor of one team.
The vast majority of the games are always heavily one sided, stomp or be stomped.
This happens, without exaggeration, all the time to the point that you can predict if you will lose or win as soon as the match with players loads up.

Did you just win 2-3 games in a row?
Oh it’s time to put you in a very highly unlikely team to win to try and lower your winrate.
You could be the best OWL player and you would still not be able to carry your team with how much skill difference there is between the teams.

Did you just lose 2-3 games in a row?
Oh it’s pity time. Let’s put you in a super league team against AI players, that you can win even if you afk.

Fire the team now, it’s obvious they can’t fix it. The game is dying because the comp system overall is crap.

All these new hero shooters are now coming for OW and the game isn’t true competitive anymore. They’ve now admitted to putting crap in your game and asking you to carry it, but it’s watery and the bucket has no bottom.

I’ve said for years that they should have made it an actual ladder and started everyone from the bottom. As long as they try start players higher up so that they can chase the carrot after dropping, then there’s no actual comp here. They just want players to keep reaching for that carrot to sell them battlepasses/skins and they’ll rig it however they need to. I’ll see yall in Marvel/StarWars/Other hero shooters because OW isn’t it anymore.

surprised they haven’t shown up yet, tbh

maybe they’re on another vacation courtesy of forum mods.

They (wetw* and smallp*) are active on European forums lately, but not here anymore, or at least I don’t see them/him (as I’m sure they’re the same person) as often . What a coincidence, huh? Both disappeared but both are now on a different forum…interesting.

He has admitted that it’s the same person, yes.

Also bans do not carry over from US to EU forums, so that may explain it.

they do not want fix this. main goal to keep people addicted and make them play this game.

If matchmaking would be skill based too many people would quit because how bad they are and can not play and win any games.

Play better? I had the same experience, top fragging 95% of my games by 30% in elims, having undeniable impact, but was stuck in a rank. And then I realized I just need to play better to climb. So I did. And then I climbed. For this instance, it was an issue of not taking and forcing enough 1v1’s that I had a high chance of winning. If you’re playing well, try push the limits and take harder fights/bigger risks. Can’t change your teammates.

What will really blow your mind is when you stop trying your best and stay at the same tier.

Yeah I often get games where I could afk and win. Then others I might as well afk and lose because enemy can run it down main into our spawn and nobody can do anything to them.

You can’t carry 4 bots on your team no matter how well you play.

If you’ve got throwers and such on the team, it’s game over.

It forces a 50/50 win rate on us, especially in lower ranked lobbies, just to keep the majority of players there, by putting us on teams with players that are known to the system for throwing and not contributing much whatsoever.

You’re lucky. I only ever lose games.

I’ve seen some good streamers lose in gold doing unranked to GM. It’s a jungle out there for sure!

Exactly. If I do well, the system expects me to carry (more) terrible players (than me). Hell no! I will just watch them die over and over as they rush in 1v5. Next match I get, we stomp so hard that I’m the potato getting carried.
