What is this matchmaking? 0W-5L in placements

Peaked high masters season 3-18, stayed high diamond on DPS if I played whatever I wanted, stayed masters if I played meta and/or counter picked the enemy DPS, masters on tank. Just picked up an account that was 3700 season 17 last time I played it, went 0-5, and placed high plat. On a role I’m worse with I went 5-0. Oh well, going to be a fun climb.

Aye, placement matchmaking is compeltely f*d. but then it was a total sthow last season too.
On my 4th loss as a tank currently in palcement, moslty because for some miraculous reasons the dps I got grouped with did hardly any damage. (healers wer emsotly fine), whiel the enemy team always had 2 very high otuput dps.

Edit:

And the last palcement match was pretty much the opposite, totaly stomped the enemy team.
And despite the really bad palcement matches placed pretty much within 2 or 3 matches worth of my last seasons SR. So apparently Blizzard recognised that their palcements are compeltely bonkers now and you basiclaly just get your Old SR back.

Something is definitely bonkers with the matchmaker, but then again the entire ranking system of the game is inherently broken so not that much of a wonder there.

Same bad luck for me continuing. First 3 placements losses.
An example of one of my matches: Temple of Anubis starting on defense. Had a Dva and Zarya as tanks. Yep, you can imagine how that went on that map with no shield tank. They capped the first point in seconds. Capped the last shortly after. We couldn’t even get a tick.

3 more losses on DPS and 1 more win on tank… 0-8 and 6-0 lmao, and I’ve always been a DPS main getting to my highest ranks.

pyah, understand that i have the utmost respect for you as a regular forumer here because you are usually polite and tend to be positive in the advice you offer.

that said, with the MM situation which you are facing using this alternate account, would you not now believe what some of the other (lower ELO) forumers are saying about the MM being blotched instead of them not as good at the game as you are?

All the real masters are currently placing their smurfs, plat accounts, and alts, so excellent stats are actually plat stats right now because thats the average. Only takes an hour or so per role to belt out an account’s placements.

Placing during peak smurfing hours will ruin your main account’s rank because there’s such a huge disconnect between the skill and SR on alt accounts.

In the short term, sure, but I have no doubts I’ll get back to high diamond/master in no time. I’ve climbed way too many alt accounts to think that anyone is being held back in the long term. You might get unlucky/lucky streaks that put you lower, or, gasp, higher than you belong.

Thanks for replying, pyah.

Wise words indeed. Reasonable and consistent with your posts.

Hopefully, the MM conspiracy theorists would think along the same lines as you do.

P.S. For any who may think that i am some high ELO elitist who believes that the MM works in my favour, i am not. I am playing in Bronze and have broken into Silver once.

There’s nothing wrong with that either. Different games suit different play styles, even within the same series. I was almost always top of the score boards in prior COD games but now I’m almost always bottom half in the newest one.

The ranked system shouldn’t make someone feel bad or good, it’s just a way to loosely get similarly skilled opponents. There’s just a lot of depth to the game so someone could be plat and have zero game sense but click heads often enough to get there or have great positioning but bad aim and be at the same rank.

that is nothing i lost 10 as dps and two elo below mine current rank. I think i am now one of them, I am starting to lose my hopes to get back, luckily is not my main, but i am starting to feel like one of them, Help.

Takes a while to climb on dps on an alt account, mostly because of the long queue times. Even if you win every single game it will take you a while simply because you can’t play that many games per day.

So far i placed only alt on dps role and i am 30 sr less than i was.

That’s been my experience every other season. I’ll usually go somewhere between 4-6 and 6-4 and place within 100 of where I left off. One season it threw me in all GM games as a masters player and I went 2-8 and I placed career high. I’m guessing it expected me to go 1-9 and I exceeded expectations.

Placement matches simply showcase the flaws of a heavy stats based MM, when will you people finally understand.
People want that crap because they believe it will help them climb yet all it does is cause more bs match ups long term in a never ending circle subpar matches.
Let people climb through winning alone, if the system is too random fix that instead of trying to use metrics to dictate a “correct” playstyle.

And while you at it, seperate queues as well, can we after 18 seasons finally get the comp experience people expect when they choose that mode. No short cuts etc. if you freaking end up at the bottom that’s where you belong, as long as the match conditions remain fair who cares.

PS: Try stat padding during placement matches

Be happy that you got a smurf for free … i couldnt get there that easy

With me on tank it’s either a stomp or get stomped. There is no middle ground. If the DPS and support play with the tank it’s usually a stomp. Two flanking DPS and healers split up trying to keep them alive is 95% of the time an out of control loss.

So the way I look at it. It’s 50/50 win or lose. Depends on how well the team plays with a tank. If they don’t know how to play around the tank we just lose, simple as that.

Just did my 4th dps palcement, a role which i freely say myself that I am not that great at, partly because i don’t play dps much, partly because my aim isn’t that great.
So far i won twice a smany games as with my tank (2 wins total), but it was pretty much either a pretty hard stomp of the enemy or getting heavy stomped. out of the 9 total palcement matches i did so far nto a single one was even rmeotely balanced. (the one that came closes was a busan game where we were pretty much just lucky in between, where i got pushed to the side as reaper and fell right beind the enemy healers and blasted them right when they utled…)

In my experience it’s usually the other way around, tank repeatedly takes terrible positioning (think Numbani attack point A, the inclined slope in the choke leading up to the point) against a comp consisting of a Junk/Phara. Most damage players know to take high ground in almost all situations.

Nothing wrong with what exactly?
MM Conspiracy Theorists disagreeing with you?

Unfortunately, due to human nature, people would feel bad or are made to feel bad if they don’t already in both the forum and in game.
However, this is just a microcosm of how things are outside of the virtual realm.
So it is what it is.

I agree and i believe that it is this game design which has managed to retain my attention because it really does cater to almost any one and of varying abilities and aptitudes.

At the end of the day, my personal observation is that the MM is functional and that the development team is always working on it and looking to improve it.

Its k. I dominated all 5 of my dps placements, including a diamond/masters one, winning gold all and 20+ k/d despite leavers. Net gain: 96 sr, less than 20 a pop with what should have been great +pbsr. I’m still trying to figure out what the heck happened? Its encouraging either way - can maybe grind up out of the bottom 1% bracket for once in my life. We’ll see how it goes.
