If you are Bronze you will play with Silver , Gold and Plat.
Bronze should play agaisnt Bronze
Silver should play agaisnt Silver
Gold should play agaisnt Gold
Plat should play agaisnt Plat and so on.
Does rank have any worth ? If you ranked to higher ELO by destroying people of lower Elo and not fighting people equal to your Elo , your win mean nothing and you rank also meaningless.
Same goes for lower Elo, if you are Bronze and keep losing to Gold and Plat , those lost are meaningless.
Scoreboard is also meaningless.
I find it sad , OW2 is great game but quite poorly managed.
35 millions user and for the sake of Queue time player have to be cannon folder for higher ELO ?
Seem to me you might not have as much player as you claim.
Bronze you will play with Silver , Gold and Plat
Thats an exaggeration. Most of the cases of bad rank gaps in a lobby are just due to differently ranked players in stacks, and the game finding the group’s average rank. And honestly, I would far rather have games with some rank overlap; golds and plats, than have to wait ten minutes in queue for a game all over again.
I’m in the camp of having ranks fight themselves only. But how do they rank up than? You get points to pass the tier line. Than you fight the next one. Does it screw groups? GM rank does that already. It just be that.
Is this true?. I always thought that it would be like this -
Bronze against Bronze & Silver
Silver against Silver & Gold
Gold against Gold & Platinum
Platinum against Platinum & Diamond
Diamond against Diamond & Masters
Master against Masters & Grandmasters
Grandmasters against Grandmasters & T500
T500 against T500
If you are saying Bronze is put against Gold & Plat. That needs to be changed. They is a huge skill gap btw Plat & Bronze.
Not exactly, but your idea is better than what we have i guess.
Bronze player should learn first how to play in bronze, but also how to be silver player, since its one rank above, so from mid rank playing with higher rank should be normal, to slowly ease yourself in to it.
Just dotn put gold and above in bronze game.
Same with other ranks, one rank difference is fine, more is a problem.
I’ve been in ranked games (in OW1) that have a silver and diamond grouped together, or both on my team. The OW rank system imo has little integrity, if any at all (further decimated by doing figuratively nothing about smurfs, nearly ever).
Your silver and gold games could have diamonds to GMs in it and there isn’t anything you can do about it. In the past it’s also been the case that you can boost a silver into at least diamond.
Why should anyone have any respect for what their system ranks you at?
How can diamond be grouped with silver?. That is pretty large skill diff. Pretty nonsensical. Why is OW team not doing anything about it. It’s pretty disappointing nothing changed with OW2. I thought it would be better.
If you win enough game in let say , Bronze league , and you get pass the certain point your rank increase.
You move up into silver league where player from silver 1-5 fight against each other.
If you lose , you lose point , win you gain point.
Statistic in game should matter aswel but not for giving you harder match. If you outperform, you get extra point making you rank faster.
Keep in mind its just an unrefined Idea.
But it should already be like that. As of now its like putting a 70kg fighter in a boxing league against a 120kg fighter. Might not be the best analogy but I think you get what I’m saying
Edit: Sorry, this gets a bit ranty but contains pertinent info:
It can happen if the silver or diamond has just moved into the rank and technically dropped/broke out of it, but it takes like 5 games or something to reflect the new rank (aka you have to prove you should be there). That said, on their portrait for everyone to see it’s still diamond and silver. I have a screenshot, somewhere.
I’ve told this story before, but in 2018 I bought a 2nd account because I didn’t need lootboxes and OW was killing it. I—now regrettably—wanted to give Blizzard more $ for this IP because it was doing amazing. I bought the account to explicitly test how the ranking system worked. I leveled it normally, and during about seasons 7-8 I played the exact same heroes, the exact same nights, the exact same ways on both accounts. My main account was 300-500SR lower than my alt account, nothing else changed except my teammates (which should’ve been similar if the system actually worked). In the past, I’ve personally IRL seen Masters players do someone else’s gold placements, only to completely stomp and still be placed exactly in the same gold rank where they were before (100 sr different, sometimes less). It’s great that one can’t manipulate SRs that easily, and terrible that their system is pretty much useless if Blizzard believes it knows better (a constant problem of the company) where you should be.
Since my test, I’ve had absolutely zero confidence in the ranked system and know that number is just what OW’s AI system thinks you are, not any valid reflection of your actual skill or how you play the game. There’s also issues with stats-weighted ranking up to diamond instead of win/lose, to say nothing of the matchmaker. I’m not necessarily an impressive player, but I probably could’ve ranked that 2nd account up much, much higher if I wanted to grind comp. I do not, because from what I’ve seen it brings out the absolute worst feelings in myself and others, as well as the most toxic behaviours in this community. OW2 with all its ranked bugs have somehow made their system worse.
My only positive thing I can say for OW2 trying to kill the game is being completely free from getting all the placement icons and sprays since S1.
TL;DR: Ranked bad and mostly useless, from my standpoint.
No it can’t. There was always a 1000 SR maximum difference allowable for you to queue while grouped with someone, and once you hit GM it was 500. No GM players were able to queue into a gold game. Ever.
Unless they were smurfing and on a different account, in which case well, that’s cheating technically.
I did read, and I repeat, no silver or gold game EVER had a GM queueing into it because the system did not allow it due to masters and GM players only being able to queue up with people within 500 SR of themselves.
For me the only point in ranking was that I know what am I capable of. Also, ranking up motivates you to learn more about the game, and it is like graduating exams for you to reach GM rank. As you are graduated, then you get actual benefits by being able to play at any rank you want and feel impactful no matter how bad the matchmaker or your low elo friends are. Now you are actually able to play the game, not allowing the game to play you.
…no. Not if you are playing competitive. If you are playing quickplay, they use a different ranking system, because people generally don’t take QP very seriously. So in QP you will see different ranks like that, yes.
Your “test” was just playing on an alt account? lol.
I’ll tell you, personally, I was hard stuck in low gold for 100’s of hours. My computer was not of the best quality. I bought a new computer, and within a week, I was high plat. How do you explain that?
Playing an alt account is one thing, placing the alt account the same days, times, heroes, and patch/season as the main (aka trying to control as many variables as you can control by yourself) I think gives some kind of validity to the experiment. If not for others, at minimum for myself.
How bad was it? Could be a number of factors in there, including the meta shifting in your favour. I’m not saying the SR system is totally useless or doesn’t ever move people. I’m saying I personally have found it useless and unless I want to invest hundreds of games into it (which I’m not willing to do), it doesn’t serve me and I don’t care for it.
