What is the point of penalties for leaving GP Games?

This game is for run right? Especially non Competitive. Why do I need to stay in a game where I’m not having any fun? Why? My teams gonna suffer because IDK about them anymore, I might as well be in a different game and they can get a new player. Why is their fun prioritized over mine in QP?

There are lots and lots of threads on this subject! Many many points of view and perspectives have already been presented on why the penalties are necessary/unnecessary.

If you click on that little Magnifying glass as the top and search for “Leaver penalties” you can read them all.

While leaving games might sound like a lot of fun to you, it’s not fun for anyone else

When people argue politics online and one side (always the same side btw) replies with “are you kidding me? look it up!” just says they don’t have an answer and are wasting forum space.

The answer to the OP’s question is - Blizz does this because it can’t fix the matchmaker so they want players to stay and suffer throwers or new players, instead of leave and try for a more fair match.

The irony is that Blizz themselves wrote in dev notes that “QP is competitive” and that was why they put in leaver penalties. Yet they won’t put in competitive matchmaking.

As a participant in literal tens of these threads, I’m just tired of saying the same things all the time and suggest people peruse the immense amount of discourse already on this particular forum.

To reduce the number of leavers

And it is working

It is replacing leavers with throwers.

This too works towards the goal of removing such players from the game, because thowing is reportable, and throwers get bans

That does nothing to those players, because they just create new accounts, literally immediately, or use one of the alt accounts they already have.

That’s the problem with the reporting and leaver systems. They only impact longtime players that spend money and invest in their 1 account while having no impact upon the problem players that spend zero money in this game. It’s all backwards.

I see the leaver penalties steadily lowering the number of leavers in the game, and as such, i see the leaver penalties as working

I only hope the penalties become more severe over time

It’s working to reduce leavers but match quality is greatly reduced. Every match is a contest of which team doesn’t have the thrower. QP is worse than ever.

Over time, the throwers will be removed from the game as well, via reports

Patience is required

You can report people for throwing. Can’t really report people for leaving, unless they do it repeatedly back to back making it take even longer for someone else to replace them. Leavers were a nuisance to the game everywhere, and it had a profound effect on the teams and how the games typically went.

its the age old community argument of:

The Dedicated Hardcore gamers vs “Filthy casuals”.

One side claims that the Overwatch game is The way the truth and the life and you had better not leave a match regardless if you are having fun or not. Or if your team mates are dancing on the payload, using “USB CHEAT DEVICE” and lasering you off the map. according to them “better remain or else”.

Here in the new few weeks I have to travel to move bees again, and I am NOT going to throw a single dime at this game or play it from my hotel room, because someone thinks that I have no right to play OPEN Q, QUICKPLAY from my hotel room because they are an angry gamer, if someone leaves their precious quickplay match.

Despite the mode literally doesn’t even produce paydirt for winning, let alone participating.

IN the end, if this is the dried up content drought they want, due to the lack of people in the pool still paying in for these overpriced skins… . let them reap the rewards they sow.

Plenty of people like me out there that would love to throw some dollars at this game if it was like it use to be, before November of 2023. But because leaving is the #1 CRIME in this game above

  • Cheating.
  • Racism.
  • Hate speech.
  • Hacking
  • Taking matches hostage.
  • disruptive spamming of chat channels…

Well, so be it. I think they have their priorities in the wrong places. …

Instead of just staying in COMPETITIVE ranked play. Where they belonged.

Eitherway, you cant teach people to chill out and just be a gamer and enjoy the gaming life. Its gotta be HARDCORE foaming at the mouth for wins.

“Go play arcade”.

Agreed. Put Quickplay open Q back in arcade.

K , great, thanks buu bye

Because blizzard has no problems with OTP’s, throwers, griefers trolling games with their terrible matchmaking but they dont like people leaving those games trying to get better quality matches.

Some corrections

OTPs - this is a perfectly legit way to play the game. No one should have any issue with players going the OTP route

Throwers - throwing is against the rules of the game, and as such, Blizzard DOES have problems with folks who throw

Griefers - see throwers

I gotta agree with your post.

More or less the people that spoke out against removing penalties, more often than not are people that are being reported on the internet for BEING the people that caused leavers in their matches.

It is the classic “nobody wants to play with me because throw games” issue. So they have to come here to reinforce the gaslighting narrative that penalties are necessary because they dont like leavers “ruining” their games.

Despite people get fedup with trolls, throwers and griefers in their matches, so they up and leave.

I came across a few “community favorites” that spoke out against penalties really strongly on here, and they are the ones on ALT accounts coming here on their main account COMPLAINING “why people leave mah match?!”

Well…

because they are disruptive players!

Overwatch is simple.

PLAY said objective. = nobody has issues.

Not every hero is going to work/be suitable in every situation. If youre an otp and playing yout hero into one of these situations and causing your team to be 4v5… youre throwing the game.

Weird cause it doesnt seem to get punished.

Why queue for a game if you’re not going to play it? If you’re purposely leaving enough games to get a penalty, you aren’t enjoying the game. Why don’t you play something you enjoy? Besides. You’re hurting other players by quitting. If you don’t take the game seriously enough to finish the matches you queue for, then go to the arcade where there are no leaver penalties.

You’re wasting forum space with your dishonesty. And they were correct. There are already threads on this issue. And don’t bring politics into this. There was nothing political about the question. Why even go there? Not everything has to be political. The is a forum for a video game.

not at all

no player is ever required to switch/swap under any circumstances

Being an OTP is a perfectly legitimate way to play the game, and further, “poor play” is specifically called out in the rules of reporting as NOT being reportable

if a given player reports another player for not switching/swapping, that given player has submitted a false report, which is breaking the rules of the game; and ergo is liable to be actioned for doing so

throwers and griefers do get actioned by Blizzard.

Not as often as I’d like them to, but they do get actioned
