What is it? I’m inclined to know why it’s full of fan-art and shipping.
I don’t have anything against variety, but THATS ALL IT IS.
I only saw one or two post talking about actual in-game things like voicelines.
The rest were chibi drawings and a bunch of ships.
That’s stuff I expect from deviantart, I’ve never been on tumblr until today either, so this is all new for me.
There are no productive discussions nor are there any useful posts, it’s just a bin of fan art.
tumblr’s just a really good place to share art, simple 
and people just like talking about their ships. i’ve seen tons of actual analysis and stuff like what you mentioned, you probably just aren’t seeing all that’s there. plus, people don’t discuss as much on tumblr like they do on forums, people just like sharing their theories and such.

Yeah, I don’t know.
Fan-art isn’t my thing, probably the reason as to why I’m declined to stay on tumblr for much longer, the good subreddits and these forums (maybe) are the only place I see productive discussion.
To each their own.
I stopped using tumblr, it’s a waste of time in my eyes.
I stopped using Tumblr for a while because most of the contents in there have left a bad taste in mouth. Once in while I poke in to see updates on pages I follow only.
Tumblr is basically a higher quality deviantart. Meant for fan art, less kids around and more “adult” content, but has a bad rep because of a few bad apples. Most of today’s funny viral jokes and memes come from tumblr, and it’s actually a really chill place for most artists.

Tumblr is where I make all my Pokemon edits.
That’s literally what Tumblr is about, sharing art and stuff.
That’s like asking why all these people on Twitter are talking but about drama, thats why the app exist

Sadly that’s what the forums seem to be turning into at times as well.
I’m looking at the tag now (with safe search on because anything you look up without safe search is 90% p*rn) and I’m seeing comics, fanart, gifs, discussions, animations, details of the character models, in game clips and more. I wouldn’t say it’ll all fanart and shipping stuff.

Pretty much this. The format and features make it pretty good as an art website. Less so for actual disussions.

That’s all tumblr is - a good place to share art and post links to fanfic. It’s not a forum site. Discussion is nearly impossible in any meaningful fashion.
Why do you think people take to these forums to discuss things so often?
Just avoid Tumblr at all costs… its a terrible place.

Yeah, just doesn’t seem like my kind of place tbh.
Get out of there, it has rcdart and bad feminists that say “this man raepin me!11!1!” randomly
But you can hide in it’s good side tho!
It’s hard but you’ll get there eventually.
You might find wars on ships or people telling innocent artists to kill themselves (look at the Zamii070 incident as an example)
and don’t forgot the time when 4chan raided their site on feminist and popular tags with gore and ew stuff, and tumblr raided back but with a failed attempt
oh, and i forgot to mention they force gay ships on your throats sometimes
even their art has the “red nose syndrome” also known as the “tumblr/sjw art style”
