it might be Kitsune but according to some in the trailer she refers to the fox as okitsune sama but based on the ult i think the fox is named Kitsune atleast until the name of the fox is confirmed like it wasnt til overwatch 2 that D.va’s meka name was Tokki

I think Kitsune is its species? IDK Japanese Lore, only Overwatch Lore.
Wait, I guess Yokai is its Species, if Spirits can even have those?
Are there multiple Kitsunes? If there is, Kiriko’s could have its own name. If there aren’t, I guess Kitsune is just its name then.

kitsune does have ties to japanese lore though i dont know if her fox is one of those or not but its possible

Kiriko’s Ultimate Ability is literally called Kitsune Rush.
D.Va has named her Mech tokki since ow 1 specially when near mechs destruction or while recalling it

If I’m not mistaken, kitsune is the actual Japanese word for fox. Similar to tanuki, which is an actual, totally normal animal whose name has magical implications in English because we don’t have the same folklore associated with its English name (raccoon dog, a much less majestic name).
I don’t know a ton about Japanese folklore either, but from what I’ve read… kitsune are clever, mischievous, shape-shifting fox spirits that can be good or bad. Inari (or Inari Okami?) is a benevolent fox deity of fertility, agriculture and protection, and some kitsune are pure white in color and serve as Inari’s messengers.
I don’t know if Kiriko has even mentioned her fox spirit’s name, much less mentioned any specifics on what it actually is, but it’s possible that it’s supposed to be an avatar of Inari or one of Inari’s servants.

I don’t think I have either, but I also don’t play much D.Va. I think I should try her and Sigma more.
But I do know that her Mech’s name was revealed sometime around the Shooting Star Cinematic, which was during Overwatch 1.

it’s a fox spirit, kitsune is fox and yokai is a spirit. it’s like a local deity.
as for a name, haven’t realy looked into it but don’t think they named it
