What is the most balanced ultimate?

I think in general, the most balanced ultimate is Minefield, due to counter play, the inability to one-shot and reasonable start-up time.

I think the least balanced ultimate is EMP, because it has literally 0 counterplay aside from "oh just don’t group up ever, despite the fact that grouping up is generally how to you “peel” people away from Sombra.

What do you guys think?

Tough one.

Moira’s ultimate seems pretty fair and balanced.

To be honest, all transformation ultimates right now seem balanced.

Symmetra ult. That wall is paper thin and still I’ve never seen it fall over.

Maybe Dva Bomb? It feels fair when you are killed by it

Alone as an ultimate? I’d say so.

Every single time it appears I’m always able to take cover, now I have had those 1-2 interactions where it gets me even though I’m behind cover, but all ultimates have been weird at one time or another.

Now throw a graviton or earthshatter on top of it, and that thing is scary

I like Bastion’s Configuration:Tank, it’s a big impact ultimate, but it can’t do all the work itself, it really is a third mode for Bastion basically. I love that.

Least balanced and worst design is obviously EMP :rage:

This is a tough question. I would consider most ults in the game to be quite “balanced.”
However, I would argue the most balanced ults are ones that do a lot, but can be interrupted/CCed/etc. Reaper is a good example of this. Does a lot of damage, however needs to be close and is easily countered by many abilities in the game.

I’d say Winston’s ultimate.

For what it’s used for (i.e. area control/zoning), I think it does a good job without being absolutely bonkers.

I think the least balanced ultimate is probably Minefield, actually. It’s just ridiculously easy to break it with Rein’s shield by just walking into it.

As a typically long ranged DPS player, I find Symm’s ult to be OPAF :rage:

Any Ultimate that isn’t a Team-Wiper.

I wish more ultimates were like Primal Rage and Pulse Bomb instead of the Nuclear Weapons that pretty much win you the game.

That’s kind of bias then lol.:joy:

Tanks:
Balanced - Self Destruct, Grav (now that it’s been nerfed), maybe Primal Rage
Too strong - Earthshatter
Too weak - Whole Hog, Supercharger, Minefield

DPS:
Balanced - Dragonstrike, Photon Barrier, Pulse Bomb *, Infra sight *
Too strong - Dragonblade, Bob, Riptire, EMP
Too weak - all the rest

  • Deliberately weak ults meant to balance out strong heroes.

Support:
Too strong - maybe Transcendence?
Too weak - maybe Valkyrie?
Balanced - most of them.
Who even knows anymore - Rally

Pulse Bomb is #1 for me. We need more ult like it and less like Ashe’s

Also, unpopular opinion…

I actually don’t find Nano Boost balanced but that’s contingent on who is being Nano Boosted.

For example, Genji being Nano Boosted is a busted combo. But she can Nano Boost other targets and it still makes their ultimates sick. So I guess the synergy is more unbalanced than anything, and there’s nothing really inherently wrong with that, I suppose.

It’s kind of like Grav-Dragon. Just sucks because the counterplay is lacking. But that is two ultimates that just synergize VERY well.

I think the way Nano-boost works is a bit flawed.

It too heavily favors melee weapons [Since melee weapons have stronger damage in exchange for less range] while shooter-esque heroes don’t get as much.

So perhaps reducing the damage resistance for something like a fire-rate buff to primary/secondary fire may work? (Melee weapons would be un-affected)
