What is the "Iris"?

Zens lore has always been my favourite, sadly there isn’t much of it.
But one thing that’s always intrigued me is the “Iris”, you hear it all the time but we still don’t know what it is :confused:

Probably something like a private network that connects the omnics. If Zenyatta is to be believed, all living things are part of it, I suppose the omnic network is just a more straightforward manifestation of it.

If Overwatch is indeed supposed to have a bigger story be told at some point, I feel like the Iris is one of the things that it’s important for the audience to not currently comprehend.

The “Iris” Is all there is, and all there needs to be.
It effects everything.

It is everything.

The Iris, is Tranquility.

I like to think that Omnics have souls, like Ghost in the Shell, so Iris would be the godlike presence they feel in the Overwatch world, well… The omnic representation of it.

I think the Omnic sees “The Iris” as their god or heaven.
I heard Orisa and Zen were talking with each other about the Iris, and Orisa wishes to learn more about the Iris from Zen since she’s rather newborn and knows so little about it.

Or the Iris could means Equality and Peace between humans and machines, as Mondatta said in Alive cinematic.

We don’t need Michael Chu to come and say, “hey guys, the Iris is literally the Shambali’s word for god.” Honestly, I think it would be really lame if it was spelled out so bluntly.

Zen’s lore (yes, he has lore) is very spiritually and philosophically focused. Going in there and getting literal would cheapen that, IMO. I think it’s pretty clear that the Iris is some sort of energy/soul/spirit/god/heaven. We don’t need definitions and diagrams and long-winded explanations.

It’s been this long since launch and we only have just now had the gang reform. At the rate it’s going Blizzard will be out of business/Chu will be retired before we even get to any real development.

I actually spoke to the voice actor at a convention for a bit cause I caught him when there wasnt a line and even he’s a bit bummed they havnt done much with him. Dude was such a bro he even signed a 2nd poster for my brother for free :+1:
