Role Limits which is starting to get very confusing now, i believe is intended to be for 1 role only?
But if you can only have 2 dps, then most lobbies are going to default to 1/2/2 anyway. Whats the point?
Sure you may get hardcore lovers of 3 Tanks/ 2 Dps, you will get purely troll comps of 2 Dps/ 3 Supports. But peoples sensibilities will tell them that there must be at least 1 tank and at least 1 Support. So that leaves 1 wildcard player who will pick either Tank or Support.
2/2/1 or 1/2/2 is not really a needle mover, this is further proved to be what they intend as they hinted that the poor soul who plays his role alone will get additional power and the only way you play your role alone in Role Limits is if the other 2 roles have 2 players filling it.
To circumvent the queue time.

Because back in ye olde days when there WASN’T role limits, people broke it by playing 3 Tanks 3 Supports, which was an incredibly strong but very unfun comp (to play and watch).

that happened in higher ranks, i understand its a problem but not for the majority of the playerbase.

None of the circumstances that necessitated the introduction of role queue has fundamentally changed and that’s even assuming Blizzard would giga-nerf Tanks and Supports if they axed role queue.
The only reason is to prevent 3&4 tank comps given the reality of tank playerbase it’s not going to happen at all for most playerbase except high elo gm grinding for rank.
But it’s just good to have that so that youtubers don’t start whining goats again
Most people didn’t and even if they did it’s nothing wrong the issue was it was used in high elo as meta due to a dlc support.
So instead of reworking that support and just putting limits to tank role they made role q and killed the game.
It’s a revert to normalcy, all roles will need to go back to pre rq states.
All the nonsense passives need to be removed.
The idea from the people I’ve read is unlimited DPS, tank and support limited to 2 (and also 6v6, there’s no point in it for 5v5).
The point is just to make comps akin to GOATS impossible. It wouldn’t solve any of the other issues people have with OQ (no one picking tanks, for example), it’s just for balancing purposes.
avoiding goats maybe helps but I would like a cap on dps heroes too.
its nothing worse than terrible dps players.
a terrible tank or support has automatically more value. either dps gets put on paar (in terms of input vs output) or make all roles equal. and not equal if you have a high crit rate otherwise make tank and support harder to equalize.
I will insta lock dps in any mode that allows me just to force others to play other roles or lose.
thats what overwatch thought me over the years, the faster you pick dps and refuse to swap the higher the chances someone on your team gives up and plays tank or support.
its disgusting, pre role q was unplayable because everyone wanted to play dps while nobody could do it without 4 Bodyguards around them. But nobody wants to be the Bodyguard.

The problem with that is an obvious one, though:
Given the fact that most people in a match want to play DPS, those who load in first will get to pick DPS while those who load in later don’t. They will then be forced to play roles they’re not good on (because they are statistically DPS mains), leading to incredibly unbalanced games based on who loaded in first, which is horrific for match quality and doubly so because of toxicity.

Thats why Mystery Heroes is the stamp for skill and balance.
No FR, if you use MH as in “Mystery Roles” and then limit them to 2 max, you will be closer to a balanced Competitive mode that truly values Flex players and versatility than ever.
But of course you would have to leave RQ there for those who would stomp and cry and throw the match if they get a role they don’t want.
People’s obsession with making this game as anti fun as possible is what results in things like this. If people would just play for fun and not to be competitive we wouldn’t have RQ, 5v5, OQ this, Role limit that. It’d just be you log in and hit play and be done with it(as it should be). People are far too obsessed with forcing people into doing things they don’t want to do.

role queue is a big reason that people are forced to do things they dont wat to do, because they cant escape the choice entirely by swapping roles.
Yep! It’s an illusion of choice. Sure you decided to queue support at the beginning before the match but now after 3 minutes of wasting time you know that switching to a 3rd tank would cause the enemy team to be stomped “but that’s just cheese and unfair and unfun wah wah wah wah wah wah wahhhhh”.
OW community needs to learn what fun is supposed to be again.
Edit: buT oPEn QUeuE iS thERe. yea pal, OQ where the 5v5 bad balancing(or lack thereof) has caused the mode to be a nearly unplayable mess.
i had the idea of enforced roles, and disabling dps until tank has been selected and then allow supports and reserve dps for the last ones. to prevent dps insta picks.
honestly i go open q with the intention to play tank or support, I see already 3 dps selected. You think I pick a tank or sup? no. I pick dps to tell my team how awful it is.
honestly screw them, we have enough of them and they aren’t even good.
I wouldn’t complain if dps was as strong as tank or support. They are only when they are absolutely cracked and still can be hard countered easily.
i agree with the owl players that said goats was the best comp ever. why? it required mental to not pick dps and instead pick to win.
no bad player can do that. its impossible to play something that isn’t dps.
Well yea, i am here to play dps and I will be very willing to sit through 6 dps if it I have to.
It is QP, I want to destress and play the char I want. If you want to martyr yourself, there is always comp.
When I read posts like this I am 100% certain most of the community is not prepared for the 6v6 event
This didn’t much happen. I was the flex player for QP and very frequently if I was not playing support or tank we ALWAYS run effectively quad DPS. I’ll say QUAD and include other tanks or support picks along the lines of Roadhog, Dva, Zenyatta, or Lucio as your sole support or tank.
I became a tank/support main precisely because I the only thing keeping a team having a 2nd or sole tank/support for the team.
Back in those days you frequently saw complaints about stomps in games. No surprised. Basic team composition is incredibly important. My matches were fairly well balanced because I was always the flex player in my games.
Today, people when about stomps in a different environment and its down to the same thing. Team composition. Unity of your team versus their own. Regardless of the format what tools you pick to use and how they mesh together is insanely important to keeping sanity in your games.

I experienced far more 5 dps 1 support (I was the support) then 3 tank 3 support.
