I need some help defining what makes a person a OTP.
This current comp season I have mostly played Moira because I like her skills and the way she heals other people.
Today I had someone on my team claim I was an OTP because in this one match I picked Moira for attack and defence but I didn’t do too badly. Because of this he says he reported me without even asking me to change hero. I would have gladly have changed to a Bridgitte for example if he had asked. Am I a OTP if I go straight to Moira?
Being unwilling to change heroes is explicitly not Gameplay Sabotage. Being a One Trick isn’t against the rules. The reporting screen explicitly excludes this from being reportable.
Put another way, the person can’t submit a valid report even if they asked you nicely to change heroes.
Being a one trick supposedly has a skill ceiling to it. At some point, the theory is that if you aren’t able to switch heroes to adjust to compositional problems then you’ll start causing your team to lose and stop climbing.
I have no idea where that point is, whether Plat, Diamond, Masters, etc.
The hard limit for what you can consistently hold is 4400-4500, but in reality it varies based upon hour input. Think of it like a multiplier. Widow has a 1.0, whereas Bastion has, say, a 0.6.
So to be on par with the rank of a 1000 hour Widow (using these multipliers), you need 1666 hours on Bastion. So what really limits one-tricks is lack of time, commitment, and greater burnout.
I mean, I guess even some OWL players are technically One Tricks. Their team learns to play around their strengths, and such. As a lowly silver, I can’t speak from deep knowledge or experience in this area, it’s just been something that coaches I’ve watched / read have said.
Either way, one tricking isn’t against the rules, and can be extremely effective for climbing. I’ve been one tricking Mei and climbing around 600 - 700 SR over the last season and a little bit.
An OTP is someone who only plays one hero and never switches no matter the situation. If they have their majority of playtime on one hero, but still switch if required and still perform well, then they’re not OTPs.
