What do you see McCree’s role being these days?
Brigitte’s stun is faster and more reliable than McCree’s, making her great backline defense.
McCree’s damage drop-off makes him not the best option for anti-Pharah tactics unless in an enclosed area.
Tracer and Genji are now stopped better by Brigitte (who can survive their assaults better and has more opportunities to stun them).
So, what does McCree still bring to the table that would make teams want him? Currently, my friends are telling me that he’s the worst character in the game and that I should switch to someone else as main. But I’ve started loving playing him ever since I used him for practicing my aim. Please help McCree maintain usefulness in the future of Overwatch, because right now his future looks bleak.
Well, according to Jeff, his role is to be like the OWL player Pine and decimate the enemy team.
Play soldier dude less risk more output. Besr hitscan. Devs abandoned mcree long time ago. He isnt buffed because of owl.
McCree is really deadly in the midfield. I feel he’s also the best anti Pharah - S76 doesn’t do damage fast enough and she’s likely to get away. Widow is possibly better at killing pharah but is much more of a liability to the team the rest of the game.
When i get killed by a flanking mccree with fth combo i lol cuz he will shortly die after for being out of position.
He gets rekt by all the tanks and ultis because of his midrange playstyle and 0 escape. He requires too much babysitting and teams don’t realize he isn’t soldier.
His role is a short to mid range DPS and duelist, he’s really great if your team can keep you alive for more than 2 seconds. His mobility is very limited and you’ll die unless you make the most of flashbang. His ult is a zoning tool at best and suicide at worst.
But aren’t there other characters that do that job better? Shouldn’t there be some job McCree does better than any other character in the game?

Click heads. That is the only time where he is better than Soldier.
He has a niche somewhere between Widow and S76. However, that niche is very tiny, and is to close to Widow’s lack of utility, instead of 76’s generalissimo.
McCree can do the job better than Soldier at close ranges but only if you can kill a 200 HP hero with two shots (Head + Body or Head + Head). That’s not an easy condition to meet for most people.
McCree is a top 3 duelist in this game
Dueling is pointless if you cant get in position to duel.
You need mobility for that. Mccree doesnt have much.
You have to respect his potential though, nobody wants to get close to a McCree without backup and that’s a strength in itself. I’m not saying he’s in a good spot but when you have a great McCree on your team it’s something to behold.
I mean, OP, other than at Master’s/GM rank (maybe Diamond, maybe)… I’d argue McCree doesn’t have a role in the game of Overwatch. There’s just no reason to run him until you consistently pop heads.
Damn I wonder how McCree could get into position… maybe with the help of a shield? Or maybe just like 76 does? Idk just a crazy thought
At that point it aint dueling though.
That is just frontline DPS, which Soldier is better at.

at this point, i think he cosplays. he dresses up like Clint Eastwood, then the Scrooge, lifeguard, van helsing, a chinese magistrate, and now its like hes Jason Borne. This guy must be one dedicated dude to the film industry or something.
He is a worst brigitte, she is better antiflanker and can heal, so unless you have god aim and land as many headshots per match as hairs i have in my butt he is not the best option
