What is Fun in a game?

Of course, this is due to pleasant emotions from the game, joy, laughter. But why do they arise?

  1. Uniqueness.
A situation that has already happened to you thousands of times ceases to bring pleasure and fun.

  2. Efficiency
Many casual players do not know this word and it is not so important to them. But experienced players who do not sit in gold really appreciate this

  3. Duration
This point cannot be separated from the first. If the unique gameplay lasts too little (the enemy team punishes you for a non-standard action), then there can be no talk of any pleasure.

Why do many players write that the conditional “Doom” is unfun? Because 1) he kills them the same way every time & 3) he does it quickly & 2) in thousands of hours they never learned how to counter it.

I think people are frustrated with doom the same way they’re frustrated with brig. Both characters kind of fulfils the job of two roles, particularly brig but also with doom to lesser extent.

Doomfist can create space by diving, catching enemies off-guard from rollouts, and when he uppercuts you in the air, you’re stunned and you can’t do anything about it. The only way to counter doom is by swapping to a hero with a stun like cassidy, or a hypermobile character like tracer.

It’s not that he is OP, at least he isn’t anymore after his consecutive nerfs. People probably dislike him because they’re OTP and don’t want to switch to a hero that can counter doom. Also, let’s not kid ourselves. Even though doom is doing pretty bad right now, most of doomfist’s ability are pretty unhealthy for this game from design perspective. He’s basically a street fighter hero with multiple CC’s in a FPS game.

In my opinion, the problem with doom isn’t doom himself, but the synergy he creates with other heroes. Tanks are already built to create space and soak in damage. Dive tanks are even built to harass the enemy backlines and kill the squishies. Even though doomfist himself isn’t considered a dive hero, he complements heroes like wrecking ball, tracer and reaper with his ability to harass the enemy backlines. So by doomfist becoming a tank in OW2, I think most of the problem with doomfist will go away by eliminating some of his synergies.

I think they cant even if they try.

People like getquakedon dont need even switch for kill doom counters. Thats why he is gm. And thats why other people in gold

I think that winning is generally fun. Despite the draw, it is zero-sum in that regard.

But what immediately comes to my mind when reading your post… I really get off on how individual and personal each game is.

Yes you are going see the same heroes and same situations, but the people controlling each character adds a ton of fun and variety.

Each role has its own concerns.

DPS

I find that I am far less demanding and constrained by my team when I am on DPS. I keep my support safe, I aid in supporting my tanks, and I seek to nullify threats.

That is super fun to me because I feel that I can contribute in so many ways.

Six-Shooter cowboy coming to click the head of a baddie who is seconds away from nuking our Moira, Mercy or Ana and I hear a “Thanks!” voiceline. THAT is super fun and rewarding.

Support

I feel that I fuel my team and I can see what’s really going on. I can see the person spamming for heals who is unaware that two barriers and an entire hard cover wall stands in our LOS.

I feel like an enabler. A puppetmaster. Especially on Ana.

Low-Level reaper in QP wants to beyblade blossom into an entire enemy team? Send him a Nano or lamp as he’s dropping in. 9/10 he isn’t even going to know I just took his risky play to the next level until after the fact.

That stuff gets me keyed up.

Hard healing / peeling on Ana can really demonstrate your capabilities and it you can often see the dynamic shift on future enemy attempts. Now they are deploying every hero in the roster to try and delete you. THAT is fun!

Tanks

I always love to play as a supportive Tank.

When I am Rein, I feel I am pushing forth the crusade. Hog hooks, I will bonk. I will swing out of my skull, I don’t even care if it’s a baby D.Va.

Someone trying to retreat or gets a little too far into the mix? I throw up that shield and cover them. That is super fun.

As D.Va, Winston, Sigma, Zarya, Hog, I will protecc. I make sure no other team mates efforts go unmaximized.

I love to build the trust up as the match progresses. Maybe we are all loosey goose at the start, but at the end we are one big synergized ball of focused damage. I love being able to enable that.

Back to the individual player element, it is fun to gauge everyone’s potential / capabilities.

A widowmaker is dinking our entire team, I swap to Genji or Winston and see she’s not all that scary face to face. THAT is fun.

I am just starting to play Genji in QP (I’ve got enough mechanical skill to operate him, can’t blade tho).

As a Genji No-Blade, it is thrilling just how powerful I am to a unstoppable Widow. If I can manage to close the distance, it’s like I snapped into Smurf mode. I never knew! Why didn’t anyone tell me?

Doomfist is another force to be reckoned with in QP and Comp. Level 28 or Level (whatever silver border is) just smacking everyone up.

I enjoy going brig or Cassidy to just stuff him every time. It gets me rocks off to see him swap. Even more so if he swaps to something he is personally less impactful with.

Still struggle with Tracer. It’s a team game though, and when we work as a team to defeat her, that is fun to me. If we don’t, I have fun trying.

The personal element mixed with the dynamic strengths and weaknesses of every hero is what is fun to me.

Games like CS:GO are really centered around who can shoot better. I like that everyone, regardless of their skill level, can be effective and game-changing in their own ways. That’s fun.

When we win that when we have fun everyday we need to win or no fun
