Hey everyone!
I’m not new to the game. I’ve been playing OW for almost 2 years now.
But I was always doing that on the basic settings. Now I want to take comp more serieus, which means I need to practice some good carry-heroes like Widow or Tracer.
I have a mouse that can change DPi from 400 to 5000. I was wondering on what DPI I should play for certain heroes like Widow , tracer , lucio and dva.
And what exactly does DPI and sensitivity do ? Whats the difference between having a low DPI and high sensitivity / high DPI low sensitivity ?
Which setting will get me the most chance to hit headshots as Widow or tracer ?
DPI- Dots per inch. Look at it as a resolution, but for your mouse.
The greater the DPI is, the better the fine aim will be, and lesser jitteriness and pixel skipping.
Sensitivity is just that: How sensitive should the reticle be to your mouse input?
High DPI and Low sens: Good resolution, not a lot of movement of the camera relative to the mouse
Low DPI and High sens: Bad resolution, possible pixel skipping, but the movement of the camera is higher relative to the mouse.
The second term that comes up is eDPI
eDPI: Your mouse DPI*Your game sensitivity
If the value of eDPI is the same then either of the above two cases will have the same effect on your mouse movement, or cm/360 (the distance it takes for your mouse to cover 360 degrees in game)
DPI, is also used to fine tune the mouse to the display so that there is minimal pixel skipping.
There is no ideal DPI or Sens combo you can have. you will have to find a sens that works best for you.
I run 4.39 on 1200 DPI and it is considered on the high side, but that feels the most direct to me.
this should help:

DPI is your mouse sens
sens is the in game sens
they are two ways of controling your overall edpi
edpi = dpi x sens (so the higher the edpi the faster youll turn)
edpi is what is actually important since it refers to the overall sens but people dont like to do quick maths so its commonly written in a (sens X and Y dpi) format.
dpi is whatever works for you i played with a sen of 8 and 900 dpi for a long time (this is considered a pretty high edpi overall). recently switched to sens 5 and 900 dpi (about half the edpi) i felt like i could aim like a god for like a week then it felt the same. my aim got slightly better but not by a ton. so edpi is entirely preference though having a edpi over 8000 is generally considered unplayable by most players.
in the end you play what you want there are guys like jjonak with insane aim at like a 2000 edpi and then you take geguri who was known for her amazing zarya tracking and her edpi is 15,000. so its preference
tanks players often prefer higher edpis
genji and tracer players often prefer higher edpis as well
aim heavy ranged hero players often prefer lower edpis
basically heros who fight close like higher edpis so they can turn quickly. heros who fight at range like lower edpis so they can aim easier.
keep in mind there is a debate over changing edpis on individual heros, some people say they have no problem with it others say changing edpis all the time effects there overall aim and prefer to use just 1 for all.
