What is a respectable rank?

What would be a respectable rank to be at in each role if actively trying to improve? When does raw aim start to plateau you?

It depends on what you consider respectable. The majority of the player base is either gold or plat. Anything above plat is above average. Anything below gold is below average.

I’ve got really bad aim and I peaked in Platinum rank in competitive so I’d say that’s the lockout for mechanical skill challenge

You should be able to get out of the metal ranks purely on game knowledge alone. This was true in OW1 and with the higher player it is more true in OW2. You should be able to reach Masters simply learning the maps and positioning and matchups and how to play with your team.

But if I one trick widow can I get out with just game knowledge of my aim sucks.

people who are mechanical gods but suck at everything else, usually get hardstuck in masters/low gm

If you pick a hero whose value comes from aim and you have no ability to aim nor any ability to actually use the map to your advantage you are not going to fare well. However even mediocre aim with good map knowledge on Widow could get you to Masters because you will be able to pre aim on people.

Ranks in this game are a joke, don’t think to much about it. Just work on improving your abilities and you’ll climb. Eventually, when climbing you’ll hit a rank you’re proud of. That can be gold or top 500.

OWL MVP. If you are not that, you suck.

Personally, I’d say Plat-Diamond. That’s where you should generally be if you care enough about the game to want to improve. That’s if you’re not new, of course. If new, Gold.

Depends. Is your aim horrible? Bronze or Silver. Is it average? It won’t plateau you. Aim doesn’t matter very much in this game. If you can’t hit anything you’ll be stuck in the lowest levels, of course. But if you can consistently hit people, it’s all game sense that decides whether you’ll be Gold or GM.

Widow is the only hero with a mechanical skill cap. So no.

Genuinely I’d say Gold-Diamond, ESPECIALLY on PC. You can see some insane aim at low levels, it’s just that the players like that have zero game sense and can’t climb higher.

A respectable rank is a better one than you were last month.

Personally i don’t find rank to be a good measure of relitive skill…

But platish but it really depends on role and your hero choices… some heros are less aim dependent than others…

Gotta have a credible system for ranks to be respectable… which ow2 ranked is a joke

Nah. I was in diamond back before I needed to bother aiming.

You can go really far on low aim heroes like every tank, most supports, Mei, Sym, pharaoh, junk, hanzo and soldier.

The high aim heroes are in fact in the minority.

The thing is I mostly enjoy playing aim based characters despite having tremors and carpal tunnel. I peaked in Platinum Y1 of OW1 but if I chose other characters as you mentioned I’d probably have peaked Diamond back then. I’m not as young as I used to be and I don’t keep up to date with the strats so my rank hovers around high bronze and low silver these days.

It is good that you play what you want to because it does not matter what you peak. Only that you have fun. A lot of people here forget that this is just a game.

Simple answer will be any rank higher than you previously had.

Raw aim in my opinion rarely matters on tank for example, depending on the hero choices you play. If you play ball for example raw aim may be the factor of not being able to complete/secure allot of kills.
With zarya who is entirely reliant on doing damage or providing enough damage/being a threat they dont walk through you. Obviously you can play zarya and always provide bubbles on a dps for example to let them play more agressive but if you cannot track at all or rightclick from a distance your effectiveness declines very fast unless you have a very good dps who basically doesn’t belong in that rank anyways to get consistent value from purely bubbling and not dealing enough damage yourself.
Winston and rein for example you dont need good aim with. It helps to finish off people with sniper monkey style or with firestrikes to build ult faster, but its not needed.
Personally i don’t find having a particular rank that important. I play ranked because i enjoy it and like having 2 rounds to play for example. I enjoy ranked and see it as rewarding when i go up in ranks when i played really well.
All i care about is that the gameplay in the rank i play at is enjoyable. For me that means that there is a form of teamplay or coordination between the teammates or they actively try to reach that and that people have a decent enough understanding of the game to counteract or know how to approach certain things.
Like that i will get shielded across towards the eichenwalde castle by my reinhardt instead of him pinning over and then screaming at me that i should stop feeding into the dmg boosted ashe ontop of the castle as i walk towards the castle and die.

To me who has i would say above average gamesense and maybe a tiny bit above average mechanics im fine with playing dps in high plat and tank and support in like diamond 3. I still make mistakes that on hindsight are just stupid like being wildy out of position sometimes or going to far expecting to get the pick and suddenly 3 people are back from their team and i die (as tank or dps).
If i actively think more in game i would probably be able to climb into masters on both support and tank, but i play for fun and im fine with the rank i have now.
I know i can improve allot more i just don’t feel the need to. Yes i try to learn from my mistakes but for me personally it’s sometimes a slow process as i tend to autopilot allot lol.
I also just simply don’t play heroes that are very effective at just hard countering a tank for example like sym bastion mei. I also don’t enjoy playing phara, another hero that can get relatively easy value if you put some effort in it. If i play those I’d probably be in diamond on dps.

Also i don’t think gold or plat are average in ow2, i believe that is like mid to silver with the influx of new players from f2p.
In ow1 average rank was like 2300 i believe or something like that.

Doesn’t matter anymore. Rank is just RNG. I play on different accounts, all get wildly different ranks. You want a good rank? Just keep buying accounts until blizzard boosts you to masters.

Probably about mid masters, depends on what you define to be peak mechanical skill.
