What in the heck is with matchmaking?

(I know my previous post was me whining about SMS, and I’m still annoyed with that, but my mom somehow let me borrow her phone number without my dad questioning it. Parents are strange)

ANYWAY!

Is anyone losing more than they used to or is it just me? I’ve had a massive loss streak since yesterday. I assume I’m playing with people who just got the game bc I cannot imagine why else I’d be losing so much.

Sure, I’m bad, but not super bad… I have my good days, I have my bad days.

But this just feels wrong.

Did the matchmaker get changed or smth??

Might want to specify if you’re talking QP or Comp. If it’s QP it’s always been real loose on the match-making.

Well, it’s QP Open Q, but it feels worse. Way worse. I can hardly win a single match. And I’m pretty sure it isn’t wholly my fault.

No, it’s not just you.

5 games in a row I got matched against people with 4k hours in the original Overwatch, and my team are made up of me and 4 guys who have under 4 hours each, obviously previous owners who bought the game, played for a day, then dropped it, and now they’re back. 1 guy, he’d played for 12 minutes. 12 minutes. He did 280 dmg on Widow the entire game. Refused to change.

The next 3 games, directly after that, I had 1 leaver on my squad who just abandoned after 1-2 min each time.

And this is all with me being completely silent in chat and just trying my best to win.

Blizzard are a garbage company who make technically poor games with bad matchmaking, no skill, bad writers, poor attitude and so much bloat it’s unreal. Expecting anything resembling competence from them is a mistake.

Treat OW2 as a throwaway joke game, which it is, because you can never take a game seriously when individual performance literally doesn’t matter and 1 drongo can nuke your game from the pick screen.

I am also getting plagued by being matched with genuinely new players, or those who took a several years long break.

I am not being toxic towards them, because I perfectly well understand that it is not their fault and I probably didn’t do any better in my first Overwatch matches, but I really don’t understand why I am getting matched with them to begin with.

SAME
I am so genuinely confused why I’m consistently being matched with people out of my skill range. I don’t know if it’s entirely my fault or the game being wonky again…

Not Just you… I was in a team with all new players versus a team with old players.

What’s happened here ? New players all around the map running after the kills like crazy and not even trying to play in team xD. Of course our team have being destroyed even with a good amount of damages.

I don’t say new players are bad players (a lots have fps exeprience and can aim) but it takes time to understand how this game works especially playing together as a team… it’s hard but we have to be patient…

I have many more positive to things to say about the game than not, but agree that matchmaking has felt disappointingly garbage, though I’m trying to put it down to teething problems. It feels quite “stomp or be stomped” atm, which is how the betas also felt to me.

From what i remember they turned off the MMR for QP in beta. Honestly it feels identical to the matchmaking now, so i doubt they even turned it back on for the sake of fast queues. That and they removed any metric to judge it by on the fly. No borders, no endorsement levels, cant see who is in a stack anymore etc.

The matchmaking is honestly ruining it for me. It’s hard to enjoy yourself when you’re consistently getting stomped on one match after another :frowning:

My experience in about 90%+ of matches is that it’s “stomp or be stomped” in it’s extremest form. One match we full hold them on something like Eichenwalde and another match we can’t get out of spawn at Midtown. It’s almost like - you check how your team performed the first fight and you know which way it’s going to go.

They probably have no matchmaking in qp anymore in favor of queue times. They also have probably relaxed matchmaking in comp now also to do the same. Over all they are focusing on queue time over integrity.

So the enemy team always gets good players and your team always gets bad players?

How odd…

Not always, mind you. I’ve had some good, fair wins. But these “stomp or get stomped” matches are heavily outweighing the fair ones. Get your smart attitude out of here.

its very bad, prove me wrong

Same boat. I am glad I am seeing a post like this and others experiencing the same thing. Like I am not a pro, but I am not terrible. At most I am at a least I am at a plat to low diamond skill level. However I am getting teammates well below that. Majority of my matches have felt one sided, with me on the weaker team. And it’s not just like a few matches, I am consistently on the weaker team. It has come to the point where I EXPECT to lose.

I’ve played enough to recognize a competent team from an incompetent one, so it’s not just me being toxic and blaming my team.

Something is wrong with the matchmaker.

I don’t mind losing, but to go on massive loss streaks you would think the matchmaker would make adjustments to compensate. But it’s like it never does.

It’s like I was designated to be the loser.

No. It doesn’t. And their well aware of it. Remember that most of their weekly challenge garbage system is “Win x games”, “Win x games in this mode”, “Win this”, “Win that”. By allowing the horse s*** matchmaking they’ve had for 6 years to continue to go unfixed, they can force people to continue to play in their already predatory system to take advantage of the FOMO. Yet another example of how absolutely scummy they’ve become.

A truly revolutionary crap matchmaking system.

Must be Blizzards dystopian MM patent. Maybe buy a couple of skins so that you get favorable matches and then you associate success and fun with spending money… yay.
