What if Sigma's shield had a 5 meter range limit and he was a maintank?

Why does his shield, which is an OP version of DM with no weakness to AOE or beams, have an unlimited range? Cap it. Then rework him into a maintank so you’re throwing if you don’t run an offtank next to him. Maybe reduced AOE damage on his primary in return for increased direct hit damage (with a little rework to how it works so you’re not always relying on the AOE to land your shots?).

Just an idea.

I think that this is a little too harsh. I feel like the devs should just buff d.va.

It would be interesting to test out. I would add some way to deal with accretion not sure how

accretion now detonates on impact with DM (it is shooting it down, that’s how DM functions)

Because they gave him Symmetra’s old photon barrier and than added the suggestions symmetra said to make her better by letting her stop her shield manually and keep it there, of course they also suggested adding a duration before it automatically dies but blizzard just ignored that part and made it a toggle

Uhm, since when?

Cap by itself isn’t gonna do anything. Ever so rarely you see Sigma’s pushing the shield over half a dozen meters distance at a meta level.

Since launch, he was clearly designed as a D.Va nerf from the start. The shield is just what DM would look like if it was a shield.

It would clearly delineate him to have no more high ground control, forcing a mobility tank pick for that job.

Sorry I guess i must have missed the memo where his barrier could eat ultimates and absorb a literal unlimited amount of damage.

Name one instant in game where there exists such a thing as “unlimited damage” in a two second period. I’ll wait.

You know full well what is meant by that statement. Dont play dumb.

How?

Seriously, watch some pro game from Sigma’s POV, you’ll see the shield going to a distance maybe once per round.

That’s once too many. D.Va goes up once on the highground, she loses her mech instantly. They broke the balance eco-system and Sigma needs clear weaknesses to allow other tanks to exist and thrive. It would also make blocking bombs for the whole team harder.

That’s meaningless and won’t do anything by itself, whatever rework you have in mind notwithstanding.

It would also make it a lot harder to block a dva bomb or a pharah barrage for the entire team.

Yes, what you mean by that statement is that it is a shield, and not DM, which is what I said. If it was a shield, it would look like Sigma’s shield.

His shield is a piece of paper.

Once again, that’s not a thing that happens. Yeah it sounds feasible in theory but it is not. Shield management dictates the shield remains close to Sigma himself, within 10m, simply because travel time is costly. You don’t see Sigma’s holding right click and if they do the shield melts before it gets there and there’s little to no value from the move.

Reduce shield travelling speed, now that’s something.

No, what I meant by that statement is that Sigma’s barrier has 700HP and is more than capable of dying in under 2 seconds. There are plenty of ults (on top of general focus fire) in the game that will deal significant amount of damage that dva’s DM can absord that Sigma’s barrier will not.

Sigma just needs a rework. That’s it. He’s super fun to play, but he can’t be balanced properly because of how insane his synergies are with other heroes (most notably Orisa) and how he’s theoretically a better version of D.va/Zarya

That expression is not wrong. There is no cap on how much damage DM can eat while it’s active.
