What if every match was a tank mirror?

Not sure exactly how it would be implemented. Maybe each map has a pool of tanks and each side was randomly assigned the same tank. I guess this would solve the counter swapping issue but would you like this? I don’t particularly like this idea but I say someone suggest it on reddit the other day.

Good way to get remaining tank players to quit completely.

It doesn’t matter if there’s “balance” if the game isn’t fun.

I think this would create the worst tank queue bottleneck of all time.

Nah sorry, Blizz needs to learn to actually stick to the promises they make.

This game won’t feel good to play until it stops being Counterwatch.

I got a better version of that.

A straight Yes/No vote, only by Tank players, to Ban the top 3 highest pickrate Tanks for their ELO.

Rather you select the Tank you get rid of switching entirely but that first would require a testing mode. See what unfairly OP/Terrible than major balancing changes. Switching to counter is another flaw game design it’s suffered from than really benefiting.

No one would play tank with that.

If you as the tank don’t pick the ‘correct’ heroes to ban, your entire team would flame you all game. No one would want to deal with that. The social pressure that would add to tanks would make the role more unplayable.

Oh, yes, I can only imagine the horror of no longer being forced to play against my hard counter. I would just stop tanking if they let me avoid that.

You say that until it’s a Ramattra meta and the team flames you for not banning him.

Depends on how you feel about hour long queue times.

You get a cracked Doom OTP, they get a Winton main, game rolls Winton as only tank available you get GG go next’d.

It’d make tank for sure worse to queue as since you’d be gambling on the map sets that your fave/best is available on, and then gambling that they get selected.
I don’t play tank anymore in part because I don’t really enjoy half of them and don’t want to learn to play them just to play counterswap. Under this proposal I’d need to learn all of them just so I don’t play a sub-Bronze turbo feed Ball one game and then my more mid rank D.Va/Orisa the next because it’d be up to my luck entirely who I’d be stuck playing.

That is who the hell I would be banning. It is insane that they thought Rammatra was a good idea. Perhaps they confused “reducing hard counters” for implementing easier to play hard counters. I know they wanted to sell Battle Passes, but damn! :sob:

Just go back to 6v6. The meta was always a mirror comp. But remember people despised it too. Probably one of the leading reasons OWL failed.

Perhaps I wasn’t clear enough.

It’s hard locked to banning whatever the top 3 Tank heroes are for the ELO of the lobby.
They don’t pick themselves.
They just do a straight, Yes/No on the ban.

So let’s say the top 3 highest pickrate Tanks in Masters is DOOM, REIN and D.VA.

In a Masters game, the vote would be on a straight Yes/No on banning DOOM, REIN and D.VA

A large reason for doing this, is that now their teammate cannot demand that they play, DOOM, REIN, and D.VA.
Because that’s not possible, if the vote goes through.

So suddenly these Tank mains who typically play a much smaller pool of heroes, are free to play different Tanks. Without the teammate toxicity. And without worrying if the opponent will break the Truce.

Particularly at GM1 and Top500, this means they can play OffMeta Heroes, without a disadvantage, regardless of what the Meta is.

It wouldn’t work. You can never only give one player the option to ban heroes. That would fuel so much toxicity if they ‘choose wrong’ that people wouldn’t play the role.

then its always gonna be a hard skill diff

people can make up for certain areas of weakness or skill by swapping

i just wish there was less hard “counters”, or if there still will be, there should be better mitigation against it so all heroes feel equally valuable at all ranks instead of either being a nuisance or useless

It’s not putting the team at a disadvantage. Both sides have it equal.
And it only goes through if both Tank players want it.

I don’t see the downside of that.

It’s a ban system, with basically no downsides. Crazy concept, right?

I just want it so everyone picks two heroes and you can swap between the two. And that’s it. If you go any higher than two then you’d have an answer to every basic comp and the goal is to reduce counter swapping. If you get three heroes then it’s pointless and don’t do it at all. But counter swapping was always an option in OW1 but never a requirement. Now it’s required.

At that point, just delete the tank role tbh.

There are huge downsides. It forces ONE player to make a decision on what heroes are playable for the entire team. There’s no upside to that. It would turn people off from playing the role.
