1 Tank
3 DPS
2 Supports
It might work in your opinion ?
It might reduce Tank pressure to carry the whole game
Queue time for DPS get reduced
Yeah or nay ?

Tanks would need to be 5v5 strength or higher. And I don’t really see a positive over it being 5v5 when it’s still 1 tank. Main reason I think some people want 6v6 back is for 2 tanks, not to have a 3rd dps. Also the amount of damage that would be flying around with 3 dps and one giga tank. It would help queue times to an extent, but that’s about the only positive I see.
DPS will be unhappy because the sole tank is going to be really powerful, tanks will be unhappy because CounterWatch™ plus the pressure of solo tanking will still be in effect, and supports will be unhappy because of stuff like the third DPS running around.
So while it might very well solve the queue time/match quality issue, I suspect that 132 would be a case of “the operation was a success, but the patient died”. A solution to the queues/quality dilemma that ends up in an unfun game doesn’t sound like the way to go.
They actually tried this once in the past.
There was a lot of damage being tossed around. TTK was very low.
Tanks melted. Support couldn’t keep people up and were dive fodder.
It would need major adjustments to work.
And deapite what many DPS players assert, the role is far from useless.
The 2-2-2 test showed no issues with queue times for me. DPS and tanks had wait times of 1-3 minutes, with DPS usually only being 1 minute longer according to the display. Support stood out with times of up to 17 minutes, but that wasn’t accurate—it was also only a maximum of 3 minutes.
Even these 3 minutes occurred during hours when no normal person would still be online.
There were absolutely no long queue times like in OW1!
Imagin how tanks will feel.they already feel like they have the whole enemy team shooting them nonstop, lets add another dps
Criers asside sure lets try it why not
It has the literal same problem 5v5 has.
Y’all, the issue with 5v5 isn’t the number 5.
Sure, the test seemed to go well. I think there’s still grounds for caution; it took until around December 2020 for OG 222 to come up with a tank shortage and after the first week of the test, flexing in the s14 222 test resulted in getting tank the majority of the time for me. We’re also not seeing a split between the 222 QP and Comp playerbase at the moment for obvious reasons, which could be trouble in theory.
I think they should go ahead and put out another 222 patch next season, and set it up so that it can stay in the Unranked menu while other experiments are running. I don’t think that they should bother with a 132 mode instead. It’s only going to end in tears.
It was tried in OW1 and it sucks. Tanks aren’t capable of defending against 3 DPS either all focus firing them or attacking from different angles
Imagine trying to walk out from behind a wall and having Junkrat, Ashe and Mei wall you off/focus fire you down
Or imagine trying to defend against a flanking Tracer, a flanking Sombra from a different angle, and a flanking genji from another angle. Good luck with that.
Yesterday I did 7 games with a buddy. So if the 14 possible roles, 12 were tank. Felt like ow1 again
But did Tanks get same buff as nowadays ? (Survivability, damage, no Mc Cree stun…)
Tanks were buffed in that experiment
It’s not so much a stat problem so much as a coverage problem
You simply can’t cover that much area as one tank when theres 3 different possible angles being taken
And in the focus fire scenario, it’s sort of the same problem. You might not blow up in half a second if your HP is through the roof but you’re not going to accomplish anything when they can just slow you down/run away/backpedal or attack from range
Oh I see. Ok then lol
They can spare us the 1-3-2 mode altogether, as far as I’m concerned. I don’t even want to imagine how often my team would end up with just one healer or one tank. At the start of OW1, healers were already the least played role, which was partly because there weren’t many interesting options. I recently realized that at the launch of OW1, there were only three healers and Symmetra in the support category.
As for the caution regarding the mode, it’s something you can only truly assess once it’s been active for a longer period. I enjoyed the 6v6 mode again, even though the patch for it was terrible. To provide a more accurate evaluation, Blizzard would need to release the raw data from all the tests. In my matches, I noticed I was suspiciously often in the same lobby with the same players, even for several days in a row. Some of us even got to know each other so well that we’ve started inviting each other out to eat!
222 is not unlike 132 many times though…its not like the tanks ONLY ever play together…it may as well be a third dps running around a lot of the time. 1 tank is not inherently a bad idea. i solo tanked for years in OW1 with little issue (and that was with the game being balanced for 2)
it can work if balanced properly…something which you can easily argue is not the case in OW2
OR
you dont balance the game for ANY format necessarily, and make it so that it the format you do go with is a question of team preference (pros and cons). heres a question - how many tanks is MR (or even early OW) currently balanced for?
They did this in OW1 and everyone hated it. No matter what you can’t get around that 1 tank is terrible for the vast majority of tank players. After playing so much rivals I’m convinced that OQ with hero bans was the right way to go and that role queue did a lot of damage to OW
It was also using qp matchmaking though so this should be taken with a grain of salt.
For a casual fine mode that’s fine but it does pose problems if you get into stricter comp matchmaking rules
1-3-2 can work, but suspect most people won’t like what it entails. Tanks would need to be 5v5 level and dps would need hard nerfs. Can’t imagine most dps players would be happy with that.
No combination of role queue would work if it has only 1 slot for a role. That one player becomes the single point of failure and needs giga buffing to survive focus fire. This also makes it extremely unfair when there’s a matchmaker diff, which happens all the time. e.g. one time our tank was Silver and enemy tank was GM, and we got annihilated even though the other roles were evenly matched. Our tank was always dead, going like 2-20 while enemy tank was 30-2.
The only solution to role queue is anything where a role is NOT just 1 slot. The community didn’t want 1-2-2, it wanted something like 2-3-2 or 2-5-2 or 3-9-3. Heck give us 0-4-2 because it’s actually amazing when it happens in OQ.
2-2-2 is the only way.
