They’re pretty neat, all things considered. But in true RickieSyxx style, I’m gonna talk positives, negatives, but I do want people to know that I do like the system.
Let’s talk negatives first, get it out of the way;
The menu is kinda clunky when you’re doing it for the first time. Especially on console, it’s hard to view what perks you can have in the hero menu. When picking perks, I feel like the font size is too small and I have to focus to read them. For the first few matches when my buddies and I were brand brand new to the system and just trying them, it was really easy to just get domed out of nowhere while looking at them. And the perks don’t really work in the practice range except for a few very noticeable ones.
Another small gripe is that it’s hard to see if a perk is working. I.e, Two Hearts for Mauga. It says it does something in the desc, but I can’t tell if it’s actually doing anything.
Last gripe is that there’s obvious hero favoritism. Some perks are straight buffs or just good things, while some are like “Flaws” in Outer Worlds where you gain something and lose something.
I.e, Ana gets a straight buff with her perks (as far as I know) and Junkrat gets speed boost on R.I.P Tire for -50% damage. Which is insane. Junkrat’s perks (haven’t tried them myself, but from my mates who have) are just bad compared to a lot of the others.
Now onto the good stuff.
I like the idea, and I wanna shout out my characters with my favorite perks imo. (Note; I have not tried every single perk.)
Mauga has really good perks, even if I can’t tell if Two Hearts works. I really like The Fire Run one. Haven’t really messed around with the extra over health one, but I really like them.
Orisa has strangely fun perks. I like the option to swap out her shield spin for her old shield. It feels nice.
Zarya’s are neat - I really like the idea of the healing bubble, even if I can’t tell if it’s doing anything.
Sombra’s are hella cool! I really like White Hat. It speaks to me. There should be a Linux one… Call it Ubuntu or something.
I like Bastions! The tank is so fun! Though I wish we’d gotten the stationary minigun back…
Zen’s are my favorite, simply for the memes. Floating Zen… I love this…
Tracer’s are busted out the wazoo. I like them obviously.
Reinhardt’s are fun, even if a bit bland. Shield bash is my favorite one. It’s hella cool.
I love Brig’s. MOAR WHIPSHOT!
