What happens when you hit the maximum level?

I mean, like, in regards to Lootboxes. If you can’t level up anymore your only choice then is spending credits and buying boxes right?

You keep looping back.

You never stop leveling up you just stop getting a different portrait.

I don’t think there is a “max” level. You keep looping the 5 star platinum border but your level keeps going up.

I can’t understand why there is no other borders beyond Plat. There’s not really an excuse tbh.

What do you mean? Now you can finally play the game.

Because there’s only like 50 people who are past the maximum platinum border level? There’s no reason to add any more. Money and time dude, they take up money and time.

I think there’s more than that.

Money and time? For what? A new border would take less than a week to make… Come on, be realistic.

If you assume that the total time to design the border and all its stars is something like 10 hours, paying a professional at Blizzard to do that would cost considerably more than the work and money involved. Sure it’s nothing in the grand scheme of things, but Blizzard doesn’t need to and the level needs to cap somewhere. Maybe in a few years when more players are actually close they’ll add some.

Most players are still Bronze or Silver border, adding portraits for the 0.01% wouldn’t make very many people happy.

A lot of players are. You normally see a Gold player in every couple games, and a Plat player is not very rare anymore.

I’d say there’s no reason yet. Not enough people have hit it for it to become a need of any sort.

That can change over time.

A couple people on my friends list hit max level and many are about to get the plat boarder. I’d expect a new portrait in the coming months

CoD prestiges end at some point. Borderlands character levels cap before 100. Overwatch portraits stop eventually.

Overwatch allows for thousands of hours to be put into the game before you hit the final portrait. That’s more than a lot of games.

By the time a statistically significant number of players reach “max” level, Levels and portraits as we know them probably won’t even exist anymore.

Do these people even have a life or a job?

CoD prestiges give you rewards and borderlands levels are tied to a skill tree. there are reasons they don’t go on forever. Overwatch can trivially add as many levels as they want with a small amount of art assets. There is no functional difference between the tiers.

Leveling up gives you loot boxes. When you hit max prestige in CoD you stop getting the benefits. You max out your character in Borderlands and your skill points are capped.

Overwatch lets you level up and get lootboxes forever, the only difference is that the cosmetic aspect changes. Overwatch still gives you the most value for a system like this.

it would take 2-3 hours at max doing a new border

is there an official source from where this can actually be confirmed?

Any streamer ever who is over the cap? Treeboydave who’s like level 5,000 or something? There’s plenty of proof out there. Stat tracking sites can retrieve the true level of someone even past the portrait cap, so there’s proof it keeps being tracked.

Exactly, which is why the two games you listed are not good analogies, because their leveling systems stop for a reason. Overwatch’s does not, and given the number of people who have hit or are approaching that limit, it seems more than reasonable for people to request a small amount of art work from the devs to unblock them for a few more years.
