What happened to Soundquake?

Did Blizzard just forgot about this guy? And am I the only one who still wants to see him in the game?

i’m on the same boat as you but with Recluse and Psywave instead lol. so many fantastic early designs that i hope we get to see in ow2.

I’m really mad about it, because they teased so many interesting characters and then they just didn’t do anything with them. Like they keep creating heroes that we haven’t even heard of like Sigma, but they won’t add those already mentioned.

Where did they mention soundquake? At the Overwatch announcement trailer.

Have you ever noticed that the museum is dedicated to the heroes of Overwatch? Yup.

See which heroes are visible in the hologram.

Okay, what are Bastion, Zenyatta and Lucio doing there? they’re not Overwatch affiliates at that point in the lore!

From this script, I suppose “soundquacke” was the idea of a name for a guy to do with sound … probably the initial codename for Lucio before he defined his lore in 2014?

obviously I would be happy if they defined this character as they did for the lore of Doomfist and his glove … but being “angry for having teased so many interesting characters” seems a bit exaggerated to me, considering the huge amount of main lore left literally without information. I could list many more characters of this soundquake:

  • Mirembe: seen 3 times. is it important to OW’s lore?
  • Retribution blackwatch pilot (according to an answer from former screenwriter Michael CHu, his name is Fio): he even has a voice acting. but is she still alive?
  • Last guy in Ana origin’s picture? Who is she? Emre Sarioglu from Operation White Dome?
  • Hakim Faisal, archaeologist who is studying the finds in Petra: is he an archaeologist hero? what face does he have? we do not know.

I could go on and on, but the point is that this whole list is no different from the situation of “soundquake”, which is a name that has been stuck waiting for a development that may come someday or never. it could even be a nickname of a hero we know, or a completely different dude (like when Liao was thought to be a hero, and instead she was the one who would give us a hero). but I would not dare to call the very first Overwatch video so CANONIC, whose information all contradict each other. even the biographies of the heroes in Playoverwatch have details that are now wrong and to be updated (in particular Mei and Reinhardt).take great care to recognize the retcon after so many years of standing lore. and surely THAT video in particular now contains the wrong details for how it was built around the lore.
