What happened to Reinhardt?

So, Sombra has an interaction with Brigitte about how she looked in Reinhardt’s file and Brig “Wouldn’t believe what she found.”

Now, that on its own isn’t much, but Brigitte also mentioned that Overwatch ‘tossed Reinhardt and Torbjorn out.’

And the cherry on top is an interaction in Storm Rising where Tracer asks Mercy if she’s talked to Reinhardt since…

She’s then cut off by Mercy simply mentioning how it’s hard on him, and she should pay him a visit, and he’d enjoy the company.

So…what exactly happened? Why was Reinhardt discharged? Is there something…wrong with him, per say?

Maybe Reinhardt is too old. Maybe it wasn’t his call and they find out the medal was originally from Balderich von Adler.

sombra also does this with pharah and why someone prevented her from joining overwatch or something along those lines, to which pharah can only tell her to get a new hobby

Hmm, Balderich’s last stand at Eichenwalde was implied to be a pretty big event, so I think they might’ve heard about his death, and the way Sombra sounded it was something bad

And about Torbjorn? I think it’s because of Bastion.

I seem to remember it being stated in the past that he was pushed out due to age, as well.

Unless I am remembering wrong, the Torb-Bastion comic book issue took place after Overwatch ended.

Probably just because he was getting old. Torb, too. Probably felt they were more a liability than asset. Jack got a pass because the soldier serum kept the worst effects of aging from affecting him.

If there is something I’ve discovered, it’s that Sombra is a notorious liar if she can get some manipulation in. She is just as ready to bluff she has the juice on someone as much as she’s actually got it.

If anything… I bet the info on Torb and Rein is there, but it isn’t the scandal she’s making it out to be. But it IS something personal for those two.

honestly, given the clues assembled, i can only guess it went something like this:
Reinhardt was given an undercover mission as mentioned in Storm Rising, he blew his cover (can’t say im surprised), was put on leave effective immediately. Torb couldn’t sit there and just watch as Overwatch kicked Reinhardt out so effortlessly after all the years of servcie he’s done so he quit too. Reinhardt probably told Brig he retired rather than got fired.

Now that being said, in Storm Rising, Overwatch was getting really desperate at finding a lead on Talon. This could’ve been what Reinhardt’s undercover mission was initially for but since he messed up, he was fired promptly out of frustration. If Tracer’s team didn’t catch Max, the entire strike team was going to be disbanded too.

Judging by the Mercy interaction, it sounds more like something happened that she really disapproved of. Probably messed a mission up badly and got people killed or something.
