I feel like we’re all pretty upset at how some of the Overwatch 2 story is being handled for one reason or another. I’m personally quite upset that the Genji/Mercy closeness is gone, when realistically it should be heightened now that they’re on a team again, just like the good old days.
I am fine with Gency not becomming a thing. I am not fine with Pharmercy becomming a thing without any previous story bacground.
Same as I hated, how Niran´s sexuality was among first things we found out without a single story behind it. It kinda ruins characters, when you expose this intimate things just like that…without any kontext in lore.
I mean it’s the first time they’ve ever done a character’s sexuality reveal this way, and I doubt they’d do it this way again. They were just proud to have overt representation this time around. If they did it multiple times I’d be knocking points off, but I think Niran’s was fine imo.
PharMercy is what they’re building up now it seems. I can’t tell if it’s just playful nods to the ship or slowly on its way to canon confirmation.
Didn´t they do it with Niran and than with Bap and Phara too? I know there is some short story somewhere on the internet, but yet again - this was presented like “btw guys, those two are this - enjoy”.
I mean in the sense of releasing a hero and throwing their sexuality at you straight away. Bap has been flirting with everyone since his release, and Pharah hasn’t showed in interest in anyone, so she could’ve gone anywhere with that side of her. I’m fine with announcing hero sexualities so that it’s there on paper 100% and no one can say otherwise, as long as there’s lore to back it up, too.
Bap was flirty I know, but Phara literaly has personality of a potato (due lack of interesting interactions or a proper backstory - so yeah, she feels “forced”. But before I get accused again by someone - I don´t mind their sexuality, I just wish there were better lore behind this. Blizzard was better in this…
I’d like more interactions of my comfort ship tbh. Poor Genji & Mercy…

Ever since I started playing Overwatch (which wasn’t that long ago) one relationship became glaringly clear to me. That relationship was Genji x Mercy. Even if some of the old voicelines got removed, they still (to me) like each other.

new overwatch 2 writters after michael chu left clearly dont care for the ship and are trying to make pharmercy a thing, the change was too abrupt, in ow1 pharah and mercy have 0 interactions in lore or any expanded universe thing, people liked to asume because pharah grown on ow she meet mercy and bla bla, but this was never a canon thing until ow2, pharah and mercy clearly have some history in the past, the photo in pharah locker with a young pharah and mercy huging and smiling sure put some fuel to the fire

I will be so upset if Blizzard’s gonna make it official, they are really going to throw away that development and relationship between Mercy and Genji and just force Pharah and Mercy together… Gency was about to be one of the best if not the best relationship we’ve could ever get from Blizzard. I think it’s saddly innevitable that they are going to make Pharah and Mercy a thing, like i don’t care if they wanna throw some gay relationships in game, but please don’t screw this awesome thing between Genji and Mercy, do lets say: Pharah and Kiriko i don’t know they both love basketball and Kiriko has unknown gender sooooo, but apart of that, even if Pharmercy was a canon i would just genuinly ignore that waste of potencial and for me, Mercy’s relationship would be still unofficial and i would still ship her with my boy, Genji. And i think i speak for most of us

I always believed genji to be a power twink
It finally happened, Mercy and Genji got their first voice lines with each other after 4 years of nothing. Did the new writers attempt to quell the growing anxiety amongst fans that they’re attempting to distance them from each other? All it would take, would simply be to give them another one of the warm, gentle and respectful interactions we were so used to from the first game. Well, here’s the first line:
MERCY: (SIGH) WHY DID WE STOP WRITING TO EACH OTHER ANYWAY, GENJI?
That’s kind of odd, isn’t it? Almost like they actually are trying to distance them from each other while downplaying the significance of the letter scene from the 2016 Reflections comic. If you were hoping for an explanation for this new development, you’d be disappointed unfortunately, because the rest of the voice line turns out to be incomprehensible banter, written so poorly that half the community were unsure if the characters were actually being serious or just having fun. This resulted in the lead narrative designer going out of his way, to confirm that they were in fact not fighting, which makes it playful bickering instead.
But doesn’t that make it even worse? It turns out their letters to each other are such an insignificant part of their lives, that they can joke about how little it meant to them that they stopped.
I’m really not feeling this new writing.

Agreed alot of the old characters feel off and the new characters feel so stariotipical. Like the new hero is the loner rogue type and weaver is the hippy all love type kiriko is a Japanese stareotype same with queen and ramatras the suprest hatred type

This is a very interesting video for Pharmacy.
in the codex within the PVE, Pharah does nothing but have a lot of concern for Mercy… while Mercy, even though she mentions Pharah only once, senses a concern on her part.
Now, I’m frankly a bit divided by this “direction”. I really like that pharah has a lesbian character, and I would have approved it also for other characters who have NEVER given any love signs towards other characters (even a Mchanzo)… but I quite agree that before there was a huge flirt with genji, while in Overwatch 2 it was almost completely removed. But not just by interaction, but just as direct attachment as before.
Regardless of the LFBT friendly sentiment, the ship between mercy and Genji was much more recurring than others imagined by the community in the past (remember when there was speculation about a relationship between rienhardt and Ana? Or junkrat with his passion for muscular women like Zarya and JQ? ). and in my opinion the only reason they didn’t touch the “much more historic” Mchanzo ship (in the charts the mcchanzo always beat the Pharmercy)… was to spare Cassidy other spotlights after the forced change of name. And therefore they preferred to use the second ship most loved by the fandom
but in my opinion it does a bit of damage to what was by now a well understood relationship with Genji.
Sure, maybe in the end they were “just friends” for real but… it was literally the first ship to have an interaction in St.Valentine in OW1 and separate protagonists in an OW2 dating sim. 
Then there is the bisexuality theory, but there is quite a direct imbalance with the references to pharah and those to genji between OW1 and 2. I really like lgbt thoughtfulness…but not when it almost too directly contradicts legitimately established pure fandom information. one of the few almost relamente sentimental relationships, by the way.

Pharmacy was only popular on twitter and tumber while gencywas popular everywhere exept tumbler. I hate how they have tried to kill gency for trash twitter points
