What games are not dead, and what are they doing that OW isn't?

I googled “League Of Legends” and “dead”, and it turns out that yeah, people say that game is dead or dying too. But is it? I mean, how many people still play it? How many people still play Dota 2? Those games are older than OW.

Overwatch isn’t a MOBA, but it has MOBA elements, so what are these games doing that Overwatch isn’t doing, and should be doing in order to not die?

(EDIT: Having never played League, and having not played Dota 2 in years, I wouldn’t know, which is why I ask.)

It has abilities and an ultimate ability with multiple different heroes.

That’s literally where the similarities end.

OW is doing fine. WoW has been dying for 10 years now and it is still kicking

Every game when searched with “dead” will give results.

its a meme…

You can google “Why the earth is flat” and you’ll get pages that explain it.

That doesn’t make it true

(agreeing with you lol)

LOL, okay. I see it said here often enough that I can’t help but get worried, though. But…

I mean yeah, if OW can decline but still hang onto enough players that it can keep going without becoming a wasteland ten or fifteen years on, then I’ll be quite happy.

A lot of gamers can’t see beyond the fingers on their keyboard. If their social circle isn’t playing anymore, there is any lull in content/new player attraction, or the game is currently doing content they don’t personally like, then the game must be dead. BTW lulls are natural in games as service models, they all have dips.

Minecraft is life, so it NEVER DIES

(sorry not sorry)

The workshop is going to help a lot I think. Especially with the casual crowd.

I remember in the original starcraft I never played the real modes. I was always playing custom maps and custom game modes.

My hope is that the workshop gets to that same level. It’s not there, yet, but they are moving in the right direction.
