What finger do you press Left-Shift with?

*note: You don't have to read this whole post if you don't want, it would just be helpful if you replied with what finger you press Left-Shift with.

I was watching a Jayne video and he noted how a Lucio who was keeping his Speed active for a long amount of time must have "a really tired pinky".

I can’t imagine pressing shift with your pinky, I press mine with my ring finger and that seems really natural to me. I’ve tried doing it with my pinky and its really awkward.

This does make a lot of sense though. About a month ago I rebound my entire setup because I realised how uncomfortable the default keys were. I changed the ability keys from LShift, E, Q - to Q, E, and Mouse3. This meant I wouldn’t have to stretch my hands too much and too awkwardly, especially when playing Lucio where I’d need to occasionally spam LShift to Crossfade many times during a fight.

I’ve found this has drawbacks though, like its really awkard to use E or Q to activate abilities that require holding while moving around, like Crossfade ironically, Soldier’s Sprint, and even Defense-Matrix from time to time.

Is LShift a default key because you’re meant to press it with your pinky, and I’m just a buffoon. Should I go back to defaults and either try and get used to pressing it with my pinky OR change LShift abilties to Ctrl, where my pinky more naturally rests.

Do I have giant monster-hands?? ;-;

Normally? Pinky. 500% or Mayhem, depending on Hero? wheel up and down.

I also use pinky, sometimes my ring finger if I’m using the ctrl key at the time.

I need to keep my ring finger on A to move left or tab to check the hero screen to see ult charges and who’s dead. So I use my pinky to press caps lock for push to talk or shift to use an ability.

Are you saying you don’t use your pinky for any keys? It seems much more efficient to make good use of all your fingers so you can do as many possible actions at one time.

Right thumb. I duplicate lshift on mouse5 for every character.

Pinky. But use whatever works.

I use pinky for crouch, which I have bound to Ctrl.

Pinky, but I rebind all my keys for all different heroes.

My Roadhog hook is on Left Click, for instance.

Big toe. 20 characters.

L shift: ring finger

CTRL: thumb

I use my thumb to press LShift.

Pound it with your fist, the only way to be sure.

pinky, always the pinky

While I can agree that holding shift with your pinky constantly does give you a sore pinky, its the reason I don’t often play games that have no option to toggle whatever is bound to shift. I have Lucio on toggle, GA on toggle, and sprint in every game that has sprint on toggle. Takes the strain off.

You’re the only person I’ve ever heard of not using their pinky. Bind it to caps lock instead and try using your pinky. I can’t imagine taking my finger off of A to press shift.

None. I bind the key to a gaming mouse with 5-7 buttons so the left hand can just focus on moving.

I still use my default key bindings.
Except for Tracer where I bind Blink to M2.

Maybe I just have really strong pinky. Hah, those days of carrying big bags of grocery 1 trip really paid off.

Pinky.

I think it depends a lot on both hand size and the specific keyboard though. So long as it’s comfortable for you, whatever works.

Pinky.
It works very well.
your palm’s shape when using WASD is pretty similar to holding a mouse.

And yes it’s pretty much a wide spread standard because it just works unless you’re an elf or a giant.

left pinky or the finger next to it
