What exactly is considered as "abusive chat"?

Today I received a message that people reported me multipe times for abusive chat. I never really flamed anyone, I was just complaining about no heals or if anyone else got toxic, I responded and maybe they ended up reporting me because they were already salty. However I have already been suspended once and contacted the support. I know that the support team consideres the following examples as toxic: (besides actual insults)

  • Noob/ Noob Team
  • get rekt
  • saying someone will get reported by me
  • writing something like “strong team” or “weak heals”
  • saying someone sucks

Now my question ist Why is EVERYTHING you write in the chat toxic for someone? your are not even allowed to write anything or say your opinion because someone might find it offensive and reports you for nothing really toxic. This is just not fair and also the support team doesnt seem to care anyways. Its just like “Oh, this person was reported 20 times for abusvie chat, hes a very nice guy but wrote noob team once 3 month ago, he gets suspended for 2 weeks” How is that fair?

My sister, who plays support, automatically reports anyone who is complaining about no heals. Not sure how often other support mains do that. But I could see it.

That being said, yes, the support team does not care. The community are the arbiters. If you get reported for any reason, the suspension sticks.

Keep in mind that Blizzard counts false reports the same as legit reports

For example: if someone didnt like that another player had chat off entirely, they could falsely report that person for Abusive Chat

or for whatever

Lots of folks dont

That said, it takes many reports to get the point where Blizzard will take action, so maybe just dont say anything at all on chat except callouts and compliments

Well I paid a lot of money for this game + loot boxes. they can mute me in the chat if i am “toxic af” but i just want to play the game dude.
BTW its not right what your sister is doing. if she is not healing, someone should tell her. if this person is mean, then report but if not, why report?

anything that is considered toxic is abusive chat

toxic is different from player to player, one even considers “gg” to be toxic so they will report you. basically abusive chat is used by players that have their own subjective reasons to why they reported you

when you paid for and installed the game, you agreed as a part of that purchase/install to behave well, too. If you break that promise, the game (Blizzard) can deny you access to the game

no one should have to mute you.

Its becoming as of this comment a bit more evident that you are toxic and deserving of what is coming your way

Who’s to say she isnt busy defending herself because no other player is peeling back to defend her from a flanker?

Who’s to say she isnt busy healing someone other than you? There are other players on your team, you know

etc etc

I already received a warning. I just have the feeling it doesnt matter what I am doing now, If someone else will report me (no matter what reason) I get banned. Doesnt matter if I will be nice now for 2 month …

This is not true. The report system is handled automatically, so people spamming false reports because someone got upset over a loss are still false reporting, there’s just no personnel to review the reports before issuing bans.

Edit: Toxicity is being harmful to a player on purpose, with the intent to hurt them. Think “bullying” and you’ve got it.

yes its handled automatically but when you ask them to remove the ban they will give you reasons like “get rekt” is the reason for the ban

they allow players to abuse the report system and they won’t look into your ban even if you aren’t really abusive

Nah, I am sitting right by her. She just (last night) got berated for not healing. I need healing spam, people telling her that she is terrible at the game. Apparently the silent members agreed because she got 0 commendations which is rare for a healer. And with all of that, 19k heals. This is in QP, the rounds are a lot shorter.

I go through the same garbage on Widow. “You are not landing any shots” while I have gold damage and 50 plus percent accuracy. It happens all the time to me; however, she rarely gets people complaining because she commits to healing far more than virtually any other person. I tell her to pocket me, and she just heals the team. That is the type of person she is. It really filters out the toxic scumbags nice and easy comparatively. To that end, she is definitely in the right and they get two reports if I am playing with her.

As for you paying for the game. I could not agree more. I hate the support team with the passion of one-thousand burning stars. Or at least I used to. I am sort of desensitized to it nowadays and realize nothing will change as long as the community enables that behavior… And of course they will. The problem is the community abusing reports. Which, again, is why I do not believe what she does is wrong. I am THE most vocal advocate against false reporting. If ANYONE claims she is not healing, they are lying just to disrupt the team.

The fact that you used these examples hints that you weren’t “just” complaining about no heals.

You probably pissed ppl off enough to get multiple reports. It’s not the end of the world. Just be nicer to others, and if they’re not doing great, try to be mature and not flame or put others down.

It’s really not rocket science. I’ve been playing for exactly around one year now and I’ve reported maybe, 5 or less people in that whole time, and have never been suspended or banned myself because I don’t get involved in that stuff and if my team is doing bad, oh well, I guess that’s one bad game, I’ll live.

The time i got banned and contacted the support team. So did my friend when he was banned. They told us that these examples are toxic

Toxicity is more or less subjective. Many people can agree on whether or not certain behaviors are toxic, but for smaller things (complaining about no heals, asking to switch, saying “GG EZ”), it definitely varies between person to person.

The thing is, the Community Guidelines try to accommodate most people’s definition of toxicity, so in the end what you get is a wide pool of behaviors listed as toxic.

I’m glad you asked buddy! Here are some examples of abusive chat,

  • “guys we should group up!”
  • “can you guys get on the payload?!”
  • “Can the DPS swap off it’s been 5 mins and gold elims is still 2”
  • “Hey! Can I get some heals”
  • “Maybe we shouldn’t run 5 dps…”
  • "Hey widow [ insert request/question/suggestion]

to OP:

pretty much sounds like you need to shut yourself up, except for simple tactical callouts and compliments to team members when you feel they are deserved

You’ve said you’ve already been banned once (maybe more for all we know) so change your behavior to pure positive.

Simple

If you cant do that, turn off your mic. Period.

That is like saying it’s ok to report people for being dumb.

If you do that you are part of the toxic community without ever needing to say a word.

I am nice from time to time, if i feel like it. the thing is, it doesnt matter.you dont get rewarded for being nice. only the reports count. plus the endorsement system has nothing to do with deciding who gets banned. it cant safe you
