What does melee reload cancel really do?

Melee cancels reload animation as soon as the ammo numbers go up, but doesn’t the melee animation have to finish? Which heroes actually benefit from reload - melee cancel - continue shooting ? the only obvious one is reaper to me.
While I’m here remember that when you need to reload as bastion, go out of turret form, shoot for 2s, then go back to have higher dps.

Reaper actually doesnt benefit from it.

I don’t think any hero can melee-cancel reload for any advantage other than dealing melee damage during what would otherwise be downtime. As far as I know, no one gets a faster reload out of it, so the only benefit is that extra bit of damage you can possibly get. It can make a big difference in very specific situations, but otherwise it’s pretty negligible.

I think cancelling reloads with abilities works better than melee cancels. I know cancelling reload with Hook, Flashbang, and Dash are all important combos.

It doesn’t really help timewise, it’s more of an extra damage type of thing if you are close enough to the enemy, so it is very situational, but most people do it just for fun when they can.

It looks cool XD

But yeah, it doesn’t do anything meaningful, it just looks cool to do

I find reload cancel useful for Torb only. His hammer quite painful, and his reload is inadequately long.

I swear I saw somewhere that Soldier was the only person to benefit from it, but it was almost useless and I don’t know how long ago that was

Ability cancelling is better

Yeah, I guess so. Very hero-specific though, like how nano cancels ana reload.
