What does DPS difference mean?

And why is it considered toxic?

Basically telling the opposing team they have the better DPS, or, someone on your team saying your team’s DPS is better.

If it’s your team saying it, it’s like saying “GG EZ” or “EZ”. It’s just being annoying to trigger the other team.

Ahh i see, thanks.

Controversial question now, is it still toxic if it’s objectively true?

Dampness per sponge.

They’re saying their sponges are more porous than yours. Sometimes it just be like that. :man_shrugging:

Honestly I hate this, they never even consider the volume of the sponge and how that affects porosity, people ignore stats that don’t suit them :rage:

It’s unsportsmanlike and lacks class.

If you wouldn’t say it after a face to face competition, don’t say it after a virtual one.

It’s toxic for a couple of reasons, but perhaps dependent on how you perceive it.

If someone says, “x difference”, i.e. dps/tank/healer difference or flat out “widow difference”, it’s flat out saying that they were overall better. While it might be true to some degree, announcing it only serves to belittle your opponent, much in the way “gg ez” is used in order to do so.

At the same time, the other function appears to create this illusion when the player says “x difference”, it’s completely ignoring the team effort involved and also being used to solidify a message that states “We won the game, and this was the reason because of it”. And again, it might be a grain of truth but let’s not kid ourselves.

Yes, this is such a flimsy defence. Imagine if you were walking down the street and you saw a woman with a pram. Inside the pram was a baby who you noticed was very ugly. If you tell the woman her baby is ugly then it’s still toxic even though it’s true. Same applies here.

Several people are typing

And there are already alot of people who don’t know what dps diff actually means.

Just for one example out of quite many:

I had a Game yesterday where the enemy had 2 very low lvl DPS a Genji and a Tracer and both were way stronger than your average Gold QP Players would ever be.

We still won the game by aggressing onto their support (Zen and Brig) and Tank Line (Hog and D.Va) with our Rein (stacked with me), Zarya, McCree (Me), Ashe, Mercy (also in my stack) and Moira. With me holding on to my flashbang and Ashe keeping Dynmaite we could round up their tanks and Supports fairly easy while their DPS had a fairly hard time to get to out Supports with both DPS on the lookout and also Zarya checking her backline every now and then. However they still got loads of kills and kept us on our toes for most of the match especially the beginning when we still didn’t know that they were way stronger than normal Genji and Tracer Players at our rank.

At the end their Zen blamed the loss on his DPS with “DPS diff” even though their DPS were definitely not at fault for that one and I’m normally an off tank Player which means McCree isn’t exactly my strongest pick and thats how my accuracy looked like.

It’s an excuse of bad tank/support players, allows them to feel a bit better about themselves by shifting the blame towards teammates on DPS role. Often used to seek support by other similar-minded dps/support playes.

It’s inherently toxic, unsportsmanlike and immature when used in context of non-professional matches. If it’s used in context of OWL or other pro matches, it’s just armchair analytics.

I want to know when did they start saying this? Is this a Gen Z thing?

Because it’s the PC group in the Blizzard community, they are more like China than they think. Always trying to put censorship on people.

It’s not toxic, it’s good friendly banter, and banter is part of a competitive scene.

If I’m tanking, and I lose, and someone would say ‘tank difference’ I would shake their hand and tell them I’ll come back stronger and crush them next time.

Streamers say it a lot, not sure who started it but probably one of the toxic ones like Samito or xQc. It’s debatable if toxic, could be used as good banter but a lot of people are just using it for the sake of blaming one of their team mates for a team game (what a shocker).

Best to use judgement if you think it’s reportable.

It’s not really toxic, at least in the original meaning.

If you have master DPS and the enemy team T500DPS it’s a fact and not an insult

I mean, it’s more like a joke than actual

Super basically started the trend with “Main tank diff”. No one took it seriously, although they knew he was most likely better right out of the get-go. Either way, it’s just banter. I usually say it to ego myself but ONLY in my teams chat, not in global chat, since I don’t want to spark anything.
