Is releasing a total of $500 priced shop-skins every 9 weeks sustainable? I haven’t bought anything since season 3. Is it motivating to look at 20 shop skins that no amount of gameplay gridinging will unlock even 1?
As long as the gameplay stays solid, we have a long time. Most other games forget about that part. I don’t play this to get stuff; I play because it’s fun.

Answer to the OP question: Endless.
Yes it is, otherwise they would not do it.
Does not matter, because most casuals will throw money at things. There are also whales who want everything and other collectors who need every skin for their hero.
Skins are pointless items and you dont need all of them. You maybe need 2-3 good ones and the rest is fluff. Just get the skin you REALLY want and be happy with it.

I don’t want all of them, the problem is you can’t even earn 1, and I don’t feel rewarded or accomplished for buying it
This just in: Bad games died.
Also, research has concluded that H2O is indeed water. More news on that on 11.
100% valid thing to say, but F2P games mostly get the money from cosmetics to not be P2W. Its sad, but thats the price for playing a game that gets updated regularly and will be supported for years.
I also think they should put hero skins in the game that you get for archiving something and not just sprays or weapon skins.
wish it would be fun, buy every game is either getting stomped or stomping the enemy team, the game is filled with trolls, afk-ers and ragequitters, matchmaking is horrible, many modes aren’t even getting players and all of it can be lead back to the switch to F2P because a more rewarding game will give reason to more players to play it, more players to join matches, more players not to ragequit, but no, everyone dismisses it as “it’s just cosmetics, they don’t matter.” Bro, this is a GAME. It itself doesn’t matter, but I don’t play games just to get frustrated and get screamed and and get false-reported for not carrying a 5v1 after all my team died to trying to flank. There needs to be some kind of payoff for the time I invest into a game, and this one doesn’t have any
That’s not entirely true is it?
You get 600 coins free every season if you complete the free pass, so you can earn one free legendary every 3 seasons maybe quicker if there are Microsoft rewards available. That’s super generous
It sucks but this how far we have allowed gaming companies to push us.
27 friggin weeks for 1 legendary is ridicilious, it’s not a reward, its a spit in the face.
And microsoft reward doesn’t matter, stop bringing it up. Things that are not obtained through gameplay are not part of the game
If you feel that way about the game, rewarding you with stuff isn’t going to make the game more fun. Stuff is supposed to be a bonus. Time spent playing is supposed to be the payoff. I’d still play if there were no cosmetics. Sounds like you need a game that you enjoy playing from match to match.

Sarcasm isn’t your strong suit is it?
I enjoyed it before the switch, because 6v6 and leveling up lootboxes very strongly mitigated the seriousness of losses. In 6v6, there were less blaming going around, and a 5v6 teamfight wasn’t a guaranteed loss as a 4v5 is now. And even if people got stomped less people got angry because there were at least a consolation price of getting closer to a free cosmetic. Rewards are not bonus, they are motivation, and motivation is an integral part of game design.
But you are right, I woul like another game than this, the one I paid for, the one I bought, the one they took away from me and replaced it with this thing.

As long as the gameplay gets better*
Yeah, sry trying to keep up and respond to everyone I sometimes miss a sentence that completely change the meaning/tone of a reply.
End of 2026 - Q2 of 2027
Its not just OW2. It seems like the way live service games are being maintained these days are slowly suffocating their own games. OW will not die because it wouldn’t have any players or wouldn’t be profitable. It will possibly end up being in the current state of TF2 with the exception of having its own item/skin market.
