Besides the obvious Counterpicking For me, it would be fighting a Tank where 1 enemy support knows how to enable their Tank and really supports their Tank. It’s like fighting 2 people mentally, especially when the enemy Tank counter picks you and the enemy support is disabling you as well and then you’ll have supports who don’t know how to help you out and starts to flame you as well. It’s Hell. and you add up the 20% healing reduction to boot from the DPS.
Example would be: Rein vs Rein and enemy Ana keeps throwing Anti-nades at you, sleep darts to throw you offguard and keeps poking w/ her left clicks and lets say a enemy Junkrat just throws his left clicks at you so you’d get an applied 20% healing debuff, you’re actually check mate
Your team not really working with you or working against you with their character picks. All the dmg you take, all the CC spam, etc. All of it would be fine if your team actually picked stuff which can help you out.
Its Dorado, DPS have both picked Echo and Genji. You go Wintin for attack. Supports go Illari and Ana.
You’ve picked Sigma against a Mauga/Bastion combo, but instead your DPS go Tracer/Widowmaker even though you got an Ana / Kiriko backline.
So many people don’t know how to play tank, they stick to DPS and support, then their lack of understanding how tanks operate screws over the tank even more. You can pick stuff to usually alleviate pressure based upon enemy team, but there is very little you can do to synergize better with your own team if they refuse to help.
The enemy team will always try to kill you and want to win. Your own team will go from wanting to help to wanting to play a lone wolf.
Exactly! Oh how I miss the good old days where you can have a fellow same role who can understand your situation and really know how to alleviate the struggle you’re experiencing.
As you said, counterpicking is the biggest problem. Tanks are able to counter each other too easily because they all serve different purposes.
The other problem is that tank players generally just have to try harder to win. Not only do you have more responsibility than anybody else because there isn’t a 2nd tank to help you, but you often have to rely too much on your DPS and supports to follow through with their target selection, ult economy, cooldown management, and overall output. If someone on your team screws up (or if the matchmaking ensures the enemy team is favored to win), then there are very frequent situations where you simply have no control over the game.
When your job is take a ton of punishment knowing there are countless opportunities for either team to screw you over, it’s no wonder tanks don’t want to play.
As a DF player, if I got a quarter everytime someone swapped to Mau, Horsey, Som, or Cass, I’d have Bill Gates making me breakfast each morning by now.
Honestly for me as a Doomfist Main, I say whenever you are trying to do your best as a tank player making space and making sure you’re team doesn’t die, yet you cannot always do both.
I’m sure this feels the same way for every single tank main out there and I’ll give an example.
Let’s say you were tanking and you wanted to prevent the tank from pushing up, that’s cool, but what happens when their team is well coordinated and plays dive while your team plays characters that are easy to dive on?
This means you’re forced to try and do both tasks singe handily but each one leads to a negative consequences if your team is bad and doesn’t know how to counter their own counter. Not only that but they flame and blame me afterward which is the most annoying part and that leads up to them not switching most of the time.
With the edition of 6v6 coming though, hoping things can be balanced somehow.
Oh, well… Then nothing. I could argue that useless teammates bother me on tank; however, they would bother me on DPS or support just as much. Perhaps even more (mostly because of my MMR).
unless i play some of the “ez” tanks like roadhog or mauga where i can flex all roles simultaneously to compensate for people not peeling or not positioning themselves to attack or survive the enemy, it is a roll of the dice whether or not supports heal me or if they die bc of bad positioning from themselves or damage hero
doubly so if i play a tank like wrecking ball; supports dont know what to do and will waste cooldowns on me when im getting health packs and then refuse to heal me when im trying to tank, and also dont use cover, standing out in the open so when i reset or hide they get dogged on
its usually not that bad if i have a duo or stack
6v6 u had two tanks so it was just “follow the fat guy and you will live” since there was two of them to hide behind. now that there is just one, it is not as easy for damage/support heroes and they have to put more effort into positioning and peeling. most ignore both though and only learn how to left click on things
They could do a rank reset and revert it back to the old Overwatch 1 ranked system where people actually played good in their rank most of the time to bring in the actual good players. Overwatch 1 players were better than most OW2 players back at the time in competitive, I’ll say that.
I literally saw a clip where a Masters Ana on 2nd point Gibraltar Defense was just jumping side to side like an easy target instead of hiding in an angle where she’s most safe at. That should say a lot about the Overwatch 2 player ranked base.
Plus, it’s much more satisfying to see what number of the rank you were at and seeing it go up rather than winning 5 games just to see the rank you got. (Not to mention the OW2 rank icons are real ugly.)
Nothing, other than counter picking. I can’t play ball or doom without the entire enemy team swapping to hard CC me into oblivion. That is the only reasonable frustration I have with tanking.
It makes you see the game differently beyond just playing a different role. All the flaws and nuances of the game whether it be matchmaking or gameplay related weigh on tank the most. It’s like taking the red pill, & getting a front row seat to the unbalanced s***-show (from other tanks, dps, and supports alike). But at least you don’t get one-shotted though amirite? lol
