What do y'all think of Mercy's current state?

I’m curious. We are all aware of the cataclysmic rift between how we all feel about mercy. So from taking a long break of the game I would like a refresher of all of y’alls opinions of her because the recent one I have heard some things about her being more expendable than chalk without a buff of her GA to counter the health loss. In addition, I have witnessed many people complain to me the past few days to switch off mercy, yet nothing was said to other supports so this kind of incited me to reach the forums to see why people are a bit zealous on me switching but never the other healers.

i think sombra needs to be reworked/ deleted

I would never ask someone to swap off, but I’d plonk Mercy down along with Moira. Only better than LW.

Mercy is a hit or miss support. Sometimes she brings value to the table, but a lot of the times you get more vaue from other supports instead. I feel like she was a bit more flexible back in OW1 but that’s just me. She seems to be doing a bit better now, but yeah, post-S9 she has become a worse pick overall.

I can’t give a good answer to fix her, but out of the majority of Supports(healers) you can pick she is by far a throw pick…

She has decent movement compared to some-Zen, Ana, some even say Juno. But her overall kit is weak, her res is meh because it’s one time use per fight basically, and if you don’t get it off you still have the cooldown now you can’t res anyone so you just get to heal or dmg bot.

Unlike new Hero’s-besides Zen and Moira basically, she can’t dmg and heal at the same time, her staff vs her pistol.

You can definitely win a game with a Mercy, but you can have better team synergy with a different support! Team synergy is very important, and you need to look at what your hero pick brings to the entire teams kit/playstyle, KarQ said the worst team for synergy was “Mercy, Sombra, Lucio, Hog and Widow”

One shot comp that won’t have much consistent healing shared around the team, Mercy pocketing Widow(or dps usually), Mercy can’t heal Sombra 90% of the game cause Sombras being stealthy, Lucio speed boosts so Hog could miss a hook, Widow will spend most time waiting for Hog to land a hook for easy 1tap etc etc.

Mercy is imo pretty close to the “balanced” line after a recent net buff

I would have preferred getting her ga cooldown restored, but you get what you get from the devs

Yeah, as much as I do not enjoy getting 1 tapped, it’s a skill issue on my part I suppose. GA would be the only thing to help remedy this potential gap that is increasing my deathrate ever so slightly (used to go 0 K 10 A and 2 D now its like, 1 K 4 A and 9 D lol)

Devs did the thing where they recognized Mercy’s underperforming, but decided to rectify this by buffing pocketing. She needs a valk rework, something that requires actual effort from the devs, but the character will get played regardless of how crap she is, sooo why bother :man_shrugging:

Mercy might be “balanced” but she’s boring to play. She has less health and less mobility than she ever had in 2. You peek out and get burst down by enemy hitscan. You can’t survive risky resurrects anymore so you only get to resurrect people who die next to cover. It seems like these changes want her to hide in the backline and pocket a DPS more than ever which is the most boring way to play Mercy imo. Dive and flanking (and Sombra!) exist solely to make Mercy’s life hell. There’s no reason to pick Mercy over Brig or Moira when Sombra exists imo.

Valkyrie is also a nothing ultimate. It’s still only 60hps and still subject to the DPS passive so you’re really only getting about 48-54hps per target which is fine to push with but it’s irrelevant against any ultimate. Mercy feels more passive and boring to play than Lifeweaver because her survivability to play in the heart of her team and be a battle healer has been taken away.

I’m not necessarily in the “Mercy needs a sweeping rework” party, but some simple powershifting in her kit like allowing her to be more mobile at the cost of like reducing her damage boost or reducing the time Valkyrie lasts and making it feel more impactful in the moment. Mercy trades damage for ease of healing and good mobility but she’s not even allowed to be the “good” at healing or being mobile without people complaining about her.

This is an opinion stated as if it were a fact, when it isnt a fact

I accept that you personally find her boring, but many others, myself included, find her fun to play

This is an opinion stated as an opinion because the title of the thread is “What do y’all think of Mercy’s current state?” Thanks.

Mery gets valk too fast after 60hp/s. Needs a 10% nerf to ultimate cost

I don’t think mercy will ever be a bad pick in 5v5 because of the death matchy nature of the game especially in QP. That said she will likely never be a top support unless one of the hitscan dps or pharah becomes broken.

my reply stands unchanged

She’s broken right now. Just switch off her and play Brig the better Mercy.

I like Mercy, and I play her sometimes when I just want to chill on support. Liked her since OW1, and even dropped the game when they stole her mass rez lol. Speaking of rez, the only thing I dont like about her is when she sneaks in a rez on an enemy tank. I wish her rez casting time on a tank was doubled or something.

I think Mercy’s a coinflip right now.

If your dps can actually play the game, then she’s a handy pick. If they can’t then you’re better off playing literally any other support besides Lifeweaver right now.

S12 so far has felt like a Dead-by-Daylight meta though and no support character feels particularly great to play imo. I think Mercy suffers from this because without her strong mobility from early patches and -25hp, she’s basically free real estate for any dive tank, sombra, genji, tracer, or Reaper. (The Reaper mains want to pretend that he’s bad right now. Don’t listen to them.)

My games on Mercy have been very hit or miss. To be honest, I haven’t been able to adjust to her GA nerfs all that well and I think they’re overly affecting her too much.

I’m definitely liking her better now that she has more potent beams. 225 hp hasn’t really made a dent in my survivability, but her healing and damage boost feel noticeably stronger–especially since the S9 hp/hitbox changes made breakpoints less relevant, sheer numbers is all Mercy has, so every percentage increase counts.

That said, Mercy has been powercrept to hell and I don’t think she’s going to be “good,” especially at higher levels of play, unless she gets a rework or at least four other supports get substantial nerfs.

Mercy still has the same problems as before. The fact if she is balanced or not is not even relevant to the discussion in my opinion. Yes lowering her HP has lessened the discrepancy between effort exerted vs how easy it is to do your thing, but just slightly. It also has the side effect that it limits the already limited amount of playstyle decisions she has, moving her even more into the heavy pocket playstyle, certainly with the other buffs they added onto it.

For me to get Mercy into a healthy place, I think they should look into ways for Mercy to have an individual impact. You could do this through her movement but you have to be careful to make sure she can be punished for a misplay. So by either making it so her optimal mode of play is by being more into the fight and taking risks, or limiting how much of an escape her movement provides. This new playmaking should replace a large part of her pocketing ability. I’ve always wondered if there could be a way where you could mix blue beam and flight resources, so if you blue beam someone, you sacrifice some of your mobility making it bigger risk.

Too much of a bit of everything.

Sustains herself and her pockets with little effort or focus.

Has a method of escape that no one can match.

The fact that she flies forces the need for hitscan which is just unfun.

Rez is a problem flat out. We all know this.

Then her entire gameplay loop is just avoiding everyone any everything.

Bad teammate? Don’t beam them ever.

Good teammate? Kay beaming you and no one else ever.

Enemy on you? Fine spam a 2 second CD button over and over and over and over and over and avoid them without so much as to look them in the eye or ever track their movement or positioning.

Caught in a bad situation. Just use ultimate and fly out.

What is with this idea that mass denial is ever okay in a game?
