What do I need for 240fps?

EDIT: I got a Gigabyte Aorus GTX 1080ti xtreme. Stock speeds with a stock i7-7700k will run OW stable at 240fps, including team fights. All together the upgrade ballparks at around $1.4k. It was $500 or so for the monitor and >$900 for the 1080ti.
I have a GTX 1060 3g that I have oc to +160 clock/+400 Memory.

I recently got a 240hz monitor and I had to overclock because my frame rate was dipping below 240 fps in team fights.

Basically, I’m watching a streamer who always has >240 fps who uses a 1pc setup and his stuff says he’s using a Gtx 1080 8g, but I’ve seen threads in the past from people saying that they can’t get 240 stable on a 1080ti.

Can someone who games with 240hz chime in and tell me what video card I need? I’ve applied a couple fixes and messed with my processor and right now the lowest I’m seeing in fights is around 180fps.

I don’t really care if new cards are being announced in 2 months.
If you have to ask why 240 hz, bc I can.
Anything saying “above 144hz is useless” is going to get reported as spam. Thank

What CPU do you have? At what graph settings are you planning to have 240 FPS?
1060 is definitely not enough to produce 240FPS in OW. 1080 looks more suitable for that task.

I have an i7-7700k, but I monitor the cpu speeds and it’s never exceeded 50-60% so it’s not a cpu bottleneck issue.

I know the 1060 isn’t enough. I just want to know if I have to spend the extra 200-300 on the TI

Have you noticed throttling kicking in?
As for TI - I’d say go for it. Even 200 FPS stable will be a difference.

throttling hasn’t been an issue.
my gpu speed getting locked at 100% after overclocking was the only thing holding me back, but i have 3.8mhz ram and a 4ghz processor (i read that above 3.6 is very important)
i heard about some people ocing to 5ghz but i dont have any bottlenecking issues so i dont bother with it

But you have! It’s the GPU, obviously. I would’ve bought 1080 ti and be happy with any fps increase

(Since I am able to have 100 FPS by reducing resolution to 1280x720, I get some masochistic pleasure from this discussion)

cap it at 200??? if you cant tell what your fps is at without looking at the fps counter then I assume it doesnt matter if it dips or not…

if you simply want 244 stable then get a 1080+ coupled with a good CPU

You never mentioned your settings.

I have a more humble system, but the following helped for a rock steady 144hz:
Overwatch Forums

I imagine you can reduce the settings even more, for a steady 240 hz.

Edit: Your low vram is probably what’s hurting, so try tweaking some of the texture-related settings.

Obvious question but I assume you play on the lowest graphics and a reasonable resolution.

I play everything on low / off, 1920/1080, on an r9 290 (basically equivalent to the GTX 970)

I have 8GB ram and an crappy I5 and get an average 150 frames or so. My processor lets me down, but you don’t need a beast graphics card for that the 250 frames IMO

Overwatch actually used quite a lot of ram. I upgraded to a 144hz monitor from 60hz and realised I couldn’t hold 144hz even with a gtx1070. If you look online, people who upgrade their ram to either have more or upgrade the frequency of the ram, get better frame rates

I said in the OP that anything like this is going to get reported as spam.
If the frame drops weren’t an issue I wouldn’t be posting about it.
I DO notice.

Anyone with a 240hz monitor notices.

But /thread, I ordered an Gigabyte GTX 1080 ti xtreme yesterday so it should be here tomorrow.

I’ll update stats after install.

which is why I also answered your question???

Just because you say that doesn’t mean you can flag it

Oh, and btw anything above 144hz is useless
