What design is blizz going for again?

they tried to have people move away from using shields all the time by nerfing them by a lot, but with the way roadhog currently is its a bad idea not to run a shield since hes able to one shot healers and dps. (theres also 1 shot hitscans, but ive heard they are working on it)

Im confused to say the least.

Dont ask them, ask the community who wants Blizzard to nerf shields BUT limit a team to 1 shield tank per team WITHOUT giving more restrictions because people already complain about role queue and hate being “restricted”

Idk bud you tell me

They are also confused and don’t know. They didn’t really have a plan for the game to be a competitive Esport.

Think of the nerfs and buffs like overdoing cosmetic surgery like Michael Jackson’s nose.

Their desire to perfect a balance for a hero has led to so many changes the heroes are becoming more unrecognizable from the ones we enjoyed at launch

True! Hog changes honestly made no sense. Why did his shotgun have a pistol fire rate for three years. Why is he “taking a breather” whilst running around juicing up on his gas. And why was it a good idea to nerf a third of his damage. Like we’re still facing the consequences of those rash desisions made to hog. And take a breather buffs, hook buffs, spread buffs, even the one damage buff from 6 to 7 were just a cover up for that initial nerf I feel like. His punisher play style always suited him more.

They are trying to make the game be less about shooting barriers, and more about shooting players.

But now it’s not worthwhile to have any barriers.
Also they haven’t really downgraded snipers and damage boosted headshots enough for that to work.

i personally think that he was ok balance wise before he got his damage back. He wasnt able to one shot like he used to, but was more of a tank then when his TaB was only healing and stationary. The extra ammo and fire rate also helped him brawl a little bit more.

Now that his damage is back he has become a big pain for anyone he can 1 shot and combine that with his tank buffs he can be a hassle to deal with. And then consider the fact that they also decreased shield health, making him a lot better at busting shields then he used to before they nerfed his damage.

I dont want to see his buffs completely reversed, but i would like to see his damage taken down a notch just so he cant 1 shot. (i also wonder why they reversed it since they stated that they didnt want anyone to have a combo that could instantly kill as their reasoning for the initial nerf)

Hear me out ol’ buddy ol’ pal, how about we hit a comprimise huh?
Here’s my suggestions

Take a breather :
No longer grants dmg reduction and movement

Scrap Gun:
Damage increased from 7 to 8
Recovery increased from .85 to 1
Ammo reduced from 5 to 4
Spread Increased by 20%

Chain hook :
Cooldown increased to 10
Hitbox decreased by (insert number)
No longer greatly reduces hook targets momentum
Hook Cooldown starts when target is pulled to Roadhog

Now I know you don’t want the big Roadhog to combo you, but he actually needs that and he’ll actually serve his niche role

On the flip side, his hooks will break more often when you turn a corner, his hook is on a 10 second cooldown and he’ll need to be more precise with the hook. He’ll be easier to punish when he’s caught. He can’t just walk up to you with his breather. It’s way more risky to go on long flanks because of his heal nerf. Oh and he’s easier to kill.

tbh i think that would probably kill him. Sure his damage is increased and his hit box made smaller, but having to reload more, having his hook take longer to recharge and be unreliable, being stuck in one place while healing, and have no way to reduce incoming damage would make him pretty much completely useless at any range and would turn him into a literal punching bag. Also, the spread increase would make his gun only usable in close range which would not be a good position for him to be in anymore

I intentionally over nerfed him to start off with, so we can focus on what to buff. But Machine gun hog doesn’t provide a niche. Ok you know what here’s the post
The reasons why Roadhog would be better in this way

i wouldn’t mind if they did those changes if they also put him in the dps category since he would do better at dealing up close damage then tanking at that point (though it would make him just a mix of mccree and reaper tbh). They could keep his health around the same so he would be a niche dps/tank hybrid. It would also allow other tanks that focus on protecting the team to be played along side roadhog as well as lessening the overall damage dealing capabilities of a team comp.

But if he was changed like that and kept a tank then he would be the worst tank by far.

Current patch is exactly what they wanted according to the AMA and it’s worse patch in Overwatch history in my individual opinion.

I hope we move away from this Valorantwatch sooner rather than later and that the devs have understood this design vision doesn’t work.

He’s always been the worst tank. He’s the offest of the off tanks. And I don’t want him as a dps, as he’ll be more of supportive high burst damage dps, not a consistent dps unless it’s consistent shield dps. What was cool about Old Roadhog was that he created space, (hook and shotgun threat) but did it in a completely different way. Like he’ll be the tank you would pick when you for example have a sombra or symmetra on your team, he would sacrifice the utility and protection but add damage and pick potential. He’ll have his niche role back with changing him close to how Hog 3.0 was.

It’s obvious they’ve completely lost sight of any vision they ever had for the game, they don’t even really hide this.

What design is blizz going for again?

Playerbase: “There’s no way roadhog will ever be meta.”

Blizz:

Blizzard: “When designing this game, we look carefully at what would create a fun, engaging, and balanced experience… and we do not that”
